Hello,

I'm replacing the steering gear box and shaft with new bitterly parts. I can't get my pitman arm off of the original box. Tried a pitman puller, PB blaster, 5lb hammer. Nothing works. The biggest ball joint tool I have is 1 1/8" so it's not big enough. I don't have a aceteleyne torch so nothing there.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

You can try a Mapp gas torch. Another trick is to put a big hammer on one side of the arm and hit the opposite side of the arm. That tends to open up the arm on the shaft. The puller with heat is the easiest way.

You may know this but put a lot of pressure on with the puller then hit the puller bolt hard with a BFH as, if, it loosens put more pressure on it.

i did a similar thing, i left the puller under heavy tension about 8 hrs. then in the morning i tried again. no go. i went to auto store and got a bigger pit man arm puller under tension about an hour i hit the tighting bolt dead cent and hard, it poped off so fast it almost got me in the head. It wasn't rusted much. 06 mega in deep south. .

Removed it.

Thanks for the replies. I left the puller on it overnight, under tension. I used the propane torch the night before and flooded it with PB Blaster after it had cooled down. In the morning I gave it one more crank and hit it with the BFH. It popped right off.

On a different note, got the Borgeson box and shaft on and the truck tracks straight down the road again!
