Ok I'll give some background... .

Truck has 137k on it. Had BFG Commercials on rear and Courser A/T's on the front 1/2 tread on both running 70-80lbs all the way around size 235/85/16E.

Tires are mounted on 16x7 Wheels. Truck vibrated a little, and had death wobble.

I replaced the king pins on both sides top and bottom.

Also has new shocks and the rest of the front end seems tight.

Death wobble gone and truck drove surprisingly straight compared to before.

THe pins were REAL BAD.

Still had the vibe, no big deal, I need new tires anyway.

Put on Mastercraft (Cooper) Courser MSR's 265/75/16E.

Awesome tread, mainly a snow tire with siping, but I like the semi-A/T look.

Courser MSR

So I start driving with them, HOLY COW this thing is ALL over the road.

I mean to the point of being not just a little dangerous but VERY Dangerous.

I have driven old trucks alot in my life and never had one act like this.

The closest would be an old Van I had that we put 31-10. 5 BIAS plys on.

But still not like this.

The tire shop had 70lbs of air in all 4. I aired them to 80lbs and it made no difference. I thought maybe too much air I took them down to 60 front and 65 rear, STILL no different.

I called Mastercraft they said "Oh my you can't run that much air", I told them this is a 3/4 ton and they said it should only be what it says on the sticker on the door I said I'm not sure but this same size tire and wheel was on my F-350 and I had no trouble, they were at 80lbs.

She said to take them to 50 front and 55 rear.

I did and I still have the "wanders" but not as bad.

Still is all over the road.

Irritating especially knowing I have approx $675 in the tires with M&B.

The truck is bad enough that when driving down the curvy road to my house my wife said "this thing feels like it's sliding around".

Anybody have any ideas or experience with these tires?

Do I need to get wider wheels?

Thanks, KO

My first thought is alignment. When I had my little cherokee years back it would wander all over the place at times, I would check the alignment and find it was toed out.

Get a tape measure and check the toe on your front tires, try for 1/8th or maybe 3/16th of an inch toe in, it always fixed my Heeps problems...

It's hard to describe really, it's wander but it... in my own terms sort of "slobbers" all over the road. Feels like I'm running on noodles.

The old tires were on for a long time and they were worn perfectly.

I drove it around 1000 miles with the old tires after the new kingpins were installed.

Thanks,KO

The sticker on the door refers to the tires that the truck came with , when the tires are changed refer to the pressures on the tire .
Find a other shop to get checked out , If you spent money with that shop , and they are not finding problum , and then giving phone advice like that , they should not get any more of your time or money .
Theres too many things it could be with out enough info to start yet in my mind .
It seems that you started chasing the wable , didn't finish ,then added tires & the problum got worse ???
Look at everything from the steering wheel to the wheels , the rubber connector/bushing in the shaft going through the fire wall , slop in the gear box , some yrs the frame would crack where the gear box mnt. to frame , linkage from GB to wheels/hub , the shaft that ties the axial to frame .

The KING Pins fixed the wobble, the vibration I had was a slightly out of balance tire, with the new tires I have no wobble or vibration.

Just a greasy feeling.

The "Shop" that gave me those answers was Mastercraft/Cooper, the manufacturer.

Looking at the tread pattern on the tire with the free-standing tread blocks and siping, and with the tires as the only change, I wonder if what you're experiencing isn't tread squirm.

there is just too much tread stock on the new tires and they tend to be spongy.

as rustyjc says, "tread squirm".

had this problem on a 1968 loadstar international dump truck with goodyear mudders on the back.

was like driving a bowl of jello.

most likely this problem won't go away until the tire wears down about 1/2 way.

my . 02

good luck

When installing new tires on a school bus the drivers will often complain about the bowl of jello syndrome.

I recently installed new Mastercraft onto my 92 D250 and it's a beautiful thing. No difference between the worn tires and the new.

I was afraid that might be the case.

It is a soft rubber for sure.

Wet traction is amazing!

I had tread squirm with a new set of Pirellis but it wasn't quite this bad LOL.

I wonder how I can get rid of 1/2 the tread LOL

Next time I will go with a different Mastercraft tire.

Thanks alot Guys.

I've never experienced that kind of thing with new tires. For me new tires always make the truck or any vehicle I've owned track much better... with the exception of true snow tires.

I have the same Mastercraft tires on my 03 Dually only 17 inch. What you feel is normal for the tire, squirm to be sure due to the depth and compound of the rubber. They sure do grip in the snow, ice and wet roads though. I have the Mastercraft Courser HTR 's for the summer and they are the best tires I have had for summer driving. Don't panic, it will get better. The crappy roads we drive on amplify the issue as well, especially if the roads have grooves or troughs from big trucks.

I have had other MasterCraft brand tires, both on a car and truck but never experienced anything like that. I had a set of Firestone SteelTex that swam all over before, they were hard compound though, they lasted a long time but I didn't like them because of the control issue. I would also suggest taking the truck back to the place you bought them, let someone there drive that thing, someone management type. I would also mention the really bad advice the Manf. gave about the tire pressure! I read somewhere insufficient tire pressure is the number one reason for rollover accidents etc. Number one neglected thing on vehicles.

I have this very tire in a 31/10. 5/15 on my 85 W150 gasser. No wander or walk. I put them on for plowing snow. Best snow tire I have ever bought. Since I have installed the tires the temperture has hovered around 45-50* and today it was near 65*. Must be real hot tires LOL. I work part time for a garage that sells these tires and this is the 1st problem I have heard of. My 250 CTD wanders on the Firestone Mts I contribute it to the wieght of the diesel and a worn box.
