Archived help to much smoke

1990 dodge d350 i changed the fuel injection pump about a month ago now i have had it tuned. went to start this morning it was cold out and it was running rough and killing the neiborhood with smoke. it clears up after it gets hot. please help before my neibors complain. .

Is the grid heater operational?

i think so i took off it got warm. but i could still touch it. when i checked it it was about 80 degree out. is it suppose to get like red hot every time.

I would say your KSB is not working, it advances the timing when the engine is cold.

Is the smoke white ot black?

White, with a cold engine is usually late timing.

I thought VE pumps used a key, shouldn't be able to slip.

IIRC elongated mounting holes in the flange.
