I have a collar to replace the output shaft snap ring to head-off failure of the stock ring. For those of you that have been down this road, mine is a 241HD version which requires removing the original ring through the plug in the top of the output housing. My concern before I get the case apart is how does one re-install the new collar through the small plug in the top of the housing? Don't you have to reassemble in reverse order which means somehow putting the collar on before the housing? Any hands on experience would sure be a great help.

Good Luck!

I started a thread on this a week ago or so. I wanted to replace the output shaft bushing (located just ahead of the output shaft seal) on a hunch. Anyway, after doing my best with two screwdrivers and a cheap snap-ring tool that I purchased and subsequently bent for the task at hand, I gave up. Neither would work through the slot in the 241HD extension housing. And that still didn't address the re-installation of the snap-ring.

I did however receive a followup call from my local Dodge dealer. He informed me that the special tool to remove the output shaft bushing was $110. 00. Needless to say, I passed on that. Before I would pay those guys $110. I'd check with a few other dealers first (they are known to be high... that's so they can make up the difference on me which affords them to give patrons like Bob Wagner incredible deals when they purchase their Ram there!)
