Ok, 2002 HO 6spd with 48,000 miles, most pulling 5-6,000 lb lawn care trailer. Tues. eve I am getting ready to head home when I notice that the engine seems much louder than it should. Gauges are fine, but as I drive, power lessens with the noise, then reappears when it quiets down. Noise is very 'old diesel' sounding, loud clacking. Pulled the code and the dash gave a 1693 "DTC detected in ECM or PCM", any help on what the DTC is?

Thanks

Matt

I'm pretty sure that the 1693 code is just a companion code that means a code is present in the ecm or pcm. The 1693 by itself is of no help. My truck currently has a 1693, but I also have a 0216 which is for a timing failure. The 1693 just indicates that the 0216 is present.

Thanks RW,

I posted first (in a panic) then searched the archives for a while. I also was able to locate the dreaded 0216 on the truck. With only 48,000 on the truck, I think it's going to the dealer tomorrow. Is either pump not covered by either Cummin's warrenty or DC's? Thanks again for the help all.

Matt

Got it into the dealer today, its the injector pump. It is covered thanks to no bombing yet ( a blessing in disguise). I thought that most problems were with the lift pump. I plan on adding a fuel pressure guage, i'll research the archives for more info. Any last suggestions to help me keep an eye on the health of the pumps?

Thanks again.

Matt

P. S. Fox, I made sure to remove all the gas, but I quickly replaced it with a 50/50 blend of kerosene and dyed red burner fuel (har-har, wouldn't the DOT love that one!)
