Archived help!!! Truck is dead !!

was just leaving work, fired up my 98. 5 24v started out the driveway and all of a sudden, no throttle response, engine seemed to "pulse" missing , black smoke puffing out of the exhaust, shut off engine rolled to the side of the road, truck cranks but no start, towed home on a flatbed, dead in driveway now, read codes P1688 "Internal fuel injection pump controller failure" and code P0252 " Fuel Injection pump fuel valve stuck", anyone have any ideas or am I done, that is do I need a new VP44 fuel pump? or any suggestions

sound's like same codes as Dead VP44 sorry man .

Yep... you most likely need a new VP44 with those symptoms and codes.



You should also check the fuel pressure at the VP44 inlet to make sure the lift pump didn't contribute to the failure.

Yikes!! Yes, I'm sorry, but I concur with the above. :{ Anytime I've seen that code, the pump's toasted... ... Got a source for parts?

Thanks for all your responses, I guess I'll be chaging out the VP44, can't complain to much as I have 284,400 miles on the original pump, I've replaced the lift pump at least three maybe four times just for "insurance" so as to avoid this from happening, my luck ran out... . reading that Blue Chip website sounds very knowledgable but Oowiee. . , the prices are a bit hgh. I'll figure something out, thanks again everyone
