I got home from plowing snow this morning and I noticed that the brake lights were not working so I checked the 20 amp fuse under the hood and noticed it was blown, I then put another fuse in it and I hit the brake pedal 10-15 times and they worked fine, so I did some driving around and when I got home I noticed the brake lights weren't working again, checked the fuse and it was blown again, at $5 a piece I don't want to keep doing this.

Any ideas as for what to look for?

thanks,

Cory

brake light switch

could the brake light switch be bad and cause this, or would it have to be a wire grounding out somewhere?

Most likely the cause is a wire grounding out. You will have to follow brake wires all the way to tail lights and check them. You may have a wire that has frayed and is grounding itself.

blown trailer fuses

I have had the same problem several times , However the first time the problem was of all things the factory relay. I replaced it and all was well for a long time then fuses started to blow . As advised above the other failures were bad wires, critters just seem to like chewing on plastic and will strip a wire of its insullation. so now I check it after not being used for a while. good luck on your search.
