I am having a problem with my 04. 5 cummins. For some reason it loses power sometimes & when I take it to the dealer, they say it has derated itself. Is this a common problem or am I the lucky one? After the service mechanic turns the computer back up it runs great for a week or two then it does it again. Any ideas what is happening guys I'd appreciate some info?

Do you get a check engine light? It sounds like something is going wrong somewhere and the ECM cuts back the power to keep from causing damage to itself (usually called limp home mode). Have they said anything along the lines of there being any problems? Is the truck stock? Sometimes with an overboost condition you can experience this but you will usually get a CEL. How are you driving when it happens? Towing, Stop and go, highway or does it matter? Next time it does it cycle the key 3 times forward without starting the truck and watch your digital odo. readout then look for a series of #'s.

No check engine light, but I do get codes for turbo boost pressures. Truck was bone stock when this happened before, but now I have the triple dog tuner. First time it happened was because the air filter got sucked into the intake tube [fram filter], but since then I have installed the FIPK kit. It happened one other time & I just cleared the codes with my scan tool & it was good for a month, now its the same thing, but no codes. When I cleared them before there was 3 codes for turbo boost, but I forget what they were. Is this a common problem? Is the electronics on turbo to blame?

With a box installed you shouldn't have boost code problems. I would check the grounds and connections to the ECM. You can also replace the MAP sensor to trouble shoot the problem.

The Bully Dog Triple Dog downloader does not do boost fooling. You can get over boost code(s) on higher levels and go into limp mode until cleared. You need a box that does boost fooling to keep from throwing over boost codes.

I have 2 boost foolers on my truck and I still throw 299's.

I have never thrown a code 299 with any of the boxes, stacks including the triple stack with the Triple Dog. I did see my Autometer boost gauge bounce close to 60psi the other day when I was playing around with my step son. Wonder if my wastegate has backed off. Was set at 55psi, another thing I need to check on.

You wont throw 299's with much boost.

Its the other way around for some reason.

Under boost, maybe too much fuel or rpms for boost level or MAP sensor is not reporting correct readings. I have seen a number of posts about code 299, and I think most were running BDDL downloader. Don't know if that is really any connection or just coincedence.

Justin, I think without a doubt its got something to do with the BDDL, Im running somewhat of a similar setup to your truck and I have never had a 299.

Checked for codes & nothing this time, but sometimes I do get that turbo [woooof] when I go to shift & it is really loud, but on my outlook I only go to 30psi. boost. What are you guys getting for psi? Think I got a bddl problem? Thanks for the replys, keep em' comin.

I have a 05 6sp with juice,ez,and afe and I see 39-40psi when on number 3-drive on juice and setting one on ez.

I haven't seen any codes but I notice on colder days around 38 or so I can only see about 29-32psi.

I also have the same turbo and have tried just about every combination of stacks with HOT Juice/Attitude, EZ, Bully Dog Triple Dog w/CL, TST w/twins and have never had a 299 code. The only codes I have ever set are P0088(gotta check the fuel pressure relief valve someday) and P0336(Common TST code).

I do know of another 05 610 that had II SPS66 and only Bully Dog Power Pup with CL that did throw 299.
