Chances are the Fuel solenoid is not pulling up. It is mounted on the side of the fuel injection pump. It is round and has three wires going to it. Turn on the key to the run position. Manually pull the rod up and it should latch up. The hit the starter and see if it runs. If it runs then the solenoid may be faulty. You may also have to hold it by hand to see if it runs. Get someone to help you.

If you do the test that 24V suggested, the other cause for the solenoid to not come up, is a relay. It is the big one on the firewall above the master cylinder for the brakes. There a metal tab that it snaps into. One screw holds it in place.

The relay can be cleaned sometimes if thats the problem. On my dads truck, I sprayed some contact cleaner in it(holding the relay terminals pointing up), then shook out any excess. I repeated this a couple more times and let it dry a while. Put it back on and it worked for a few more months.

I just had a problem with mine while i was on the road last month. It was the solenoid but the rubber boot had started to fall apart and had wrapped itself around the spring so that it couldnt pull it up. I took off the solenoid and got the old boot off, and reassembled. Works fine now, just need to order a new boot which I have seen Larry B has.

thanks guys for the help i think what had happened was the power wire for had broken off of the battery any thanks alot for the info. :)
