greetings,

i need some help with a diamond plate tool box (i want to buy and modify one).

i will be hauling two motorcycles. i want to mount wheel chocks (not much stress) and tie down anchors (a lot of stress) to the tail gate facing side of the box. has anyone done this? can anyone recommend a welding shop (no truck accessory shop will do this) that will modify the box.

any help will be appreciated.

Are you getting a box that sits on the bed?Otherwise, there should be two real good tie down points in the bed (at least in my 96).
They may still have the rubber plugs covering them.
I've thought about lifting my toolbox up, solidly supporting the bottom, after I've attaced a couple of chains to these points so I can use them again.

i am looking for a box that will be flush or just below the bed rails. i want it to sit on the bed to maximize useable space. i want to avoid excessive holes in the bed.

anyone know of a decent welding shop in the sf bay area willing to do this kind of work?

thanks

Americana,
On my tool box I installed Stainless U-bolts facing down on the part that goes over to the bed side and they work great for tying things in(also placed on fore+aft sides of the stake pockets before installing diamondplate cap). Don't see a reason you couldn't do the same thing on the back of your box, just get some aluminum angle to bolt them through on the inside of the box to stiffen it up. I got mine from Eagle Hardware but if you want polished ones go to a good marine supply store that carrys hardware and you can buy transom eyes that are polished stainless in different sizes with polished backup plates, this would probably be stronger than welding eyes to the aluminum. Also you could bolt aluminum angles on the out side(using stainless fasteners) for your wheel chocks.
Hope this helps. HAPPY RAMMIN
Caleb

when I added my tool box there was not and i REPET NOT GOING TO BE ANY HOLES drilled into the bed of the truck I made some u clamps (ss)that go under the bed rail and bolt down throw the box to hold it in place I also add two allum. block to the box to fit into the pockets of the bed to keep the box from moving when a load is tied to it also added (ss)reinforsment inside the box at all bolt points it is always better to bolt thing in place when you are working with thin allum. and add backing to me it looks cleaner.
