I was thinking I'd like to upgrade to the latest (safe) software for a stock transmission.

I downloaded ... . A47 (see below).

Unfortunately in the process I lost track of which software I had when I started.

I've had the Smarty for a little over a year and the setting I was running was #3; which is described as: Like #2 + added timing. The spec sheet is rather confusing to me but I think it's trying to say I had 60 HP and "soft" CaTCHER (stock timing).

Have I done myself a disservice by downloading the s/w at the bottom of this list?? I was really just trying to get away from the persistant DTC. I loved the level three performance I had.

Which of the four noted below should I have downloaded? Did I have standard Smarty software before?

I bought from Rip at Source Automotive in Portland about Feb. 2007.

2006, AFE intake, stock everything else.

S06V411BD111A36. 7z Smarty S-06A Ver. 4. 11B, Data: 1. 11A

Stock torque management

Years: 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006

S06V411BD111A47. 7z Smarty S-06A Ver. 4. 11B, Data: 1. 11A

Stock torque management

Years: 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007

S06V411BD211A36. 7z Smarty S-06A Ver. 4. 11B, Data: 2. 11A

Mild torque management increase

Years: 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006

(standard Smarty software)

Mild torque management increase

Years: 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007

(standard Smarty software)

Geez. I really sound stupid here but the description of the four s/w packages are so similar I can't tell them apart.

Really not ready to upgrade or repair a transmission yet... . What the difference between ... . A36 and ... . A47?

Thanks for any explanations.

Not sure on the difference, but for me since I have an '03 the A36 are the only programs that will load into my ECM. Not sure this helps much.

With the '06 you can utilize any of the s/w listed above. If you have an all stock trans, I would suggest Stock Torque Managent for '04-'07 (Second from top on your list). That software will allow you to actually drive your truck with little worry of damage to trans. At least that has been my experience.

They are all FUN!

Thanks RMaguire.....

I sure wish there was even a little documentation on the various software loads. I know, it was stupid of me to download the upgrade before I knew what I was doing…. .

It seems to me that my initial set of selections when I bought the Smarty from the dealer as described on the red sheet in the directions, included versions with no Torque management (is that same as stock?), Moderate, and Mild Torque Management. So was that just a sub-set of the available options on the Downloads Page?

All of my reading on the TDR up to that point about a year ago, lead me to believe that a setting of 3 (Mild Torque management and added timing?) would be the safest yet still nice and snappy on the throttle.

The new downloads seem include a lot more settings on each of the torque management level. Did I guess right?

For example S06V411BD111A36. 7z seems to have ten(?) settings for stock TM;

and S06V411BD211A36. 7z seems to offer the same for Mild TM.

Do the odd levels still represent added timing and the even levels represent no timing?? If so what do the various levels represent? Is it still 0-170hp add-on but in tighter increments??

Would level 3 on Mild TM be same as what I initially purchased and installed? I know that 3 on Stock s/w if have now sure doesn't feel nearly and fun to drive as what I had a week ago. I'd go back to that one and put up with the persistent trouble code if I could. I'm really concerned about pre-mature transmission failure with too aggressive of a S/W load prior to transmission upgrade.

I felt a lot more comfortable with the original software because it had a description of that it was doing…. Now I've become my own warranty station AND S/W tester. Has anyone already done the homework to figure this out? Thanks in advance to anyone who has some info...

All the settings are the same regardless of the TM setting you load. The only difference is the defueling, or torque management. The SAFEST s/w for your trans is Stock Torque Management. The higher the setting on any Torque setting the higher the risk of trans damage. My truck seemed to handle Stock Torque at level 7 just fine... maybe just me.
