I am planning a swap to put a cummins 6bt into a 54 White 3000. The trans will be an Allison AT540/545 4 sp auto with a brownie box behind mated to a 2001 E350 dana 80 disc rear. Total weight 9000 lbs empty. My question is what is the best sequence of upgrades to boost power being that I can't afford to do all at once but don't want to replace a previously bought upgrade part. The vehicle will be driven during the power upgrades. I am interested in manufactures/part numbers/and cost. Is there a build sheet such as hotrodder magazines published going through a complete engine buildup???Is there an order of changes to do first? Finally is 300hp a realistic number to shoot for on a daily driver/tow vehicle?

300hp?

For only 300HP you wont need an 'engine build-up'. All you'd need is a bigger exhaust, better air filter, and a fuel plate... total $ spent? Figure $500-600!! YOUR concern should be the transmission not grenading behind that torque! Bon appa-bomb!!

That's what I was getting at. I didn't know if he was "up" on things, so I thought I ask in another way.

I agree that is the most important question.

More info

The trans is an Allison auto 4sp and the engine would be a 94-98 with it's pump. I don't want any computers to deal with. I don't know if they all cane with p7100's or not.

In those years they all came with P7100 pumps. 98. 5 was the cutoff.

There are 4 different sizes offered, 160hp, 175hp (1994 and 1995 automatic and manual pumps respectively) and 180hp, and 215hp (1996-1998. 5 automatic and manual trucks respectively).

The for the most HP you want a 215 pump. You can get 300hp out of it very, very easily. To get 300hp out of a 160 pump you will need to spend quite a bit more money.

There should be a data plate on the front gear housing by the injection pump. It should tell you what HP you have.
