I have been messing with my truck the last few days, but do not remember bumping or unplugging anything. What would cause this? The horn sounds three times when I unlock it which, as I recall, advises you that the alarm has been triggered since the last time I locked it.

Any ideas?

When my 02 did this I was near military sites such as in Las Vegas & in Acton, CA which was near Lockheed Skunk Works or any military or areospace installation. They worked on it in Vegas and could not find the problem. When I got home I took it to where I bought it (Carson Dodge) & they could not find the problem. They bugged DC until DC finally found where they had had problems with some of the late 01's & early 02's Central Timing Modules. They wrapped my CTM with aluminum foil & i have never had anymore problems. The CTM controls the alarm system. This problem started almost a year after I had the truck. I see by where you live you could be near military or aerospace installations. Just a thought.

You are on to something! I just retired as an Air Traffic Controller and worked next to Mirimar NAS and my alarm would sometimes go off when i walked out after work to go home.

Where is the CTM located?

It is concealed under the driver side end of the instrument panel inboard of the instrument panel steering column opening, you have to remove the lower dash panel or also called kick panel, where it is secured to a stamped steel bracket that is integral to the instrument panel. You probably have the High-Line/Premium module & it cautions in the repair manual about disabling the air bag system & that you have to use a DBRIII tool to retrieve the current settings. It looks like it is above the data port connector where you read your fault codes. If you were going to wrap the CTM with aluminum foil you might not have to worry about the air bag & the DBRIII. It makes it more sensitive, in other words I have to be a little closer to the truck to lock & unlock. I never saw mine when they did it as the dealer did it. Hope this helps.
