Ok guys I know this is a Dodge web site, but I own both a Dodge CTD and a Ford excursion to hall my 6 kids around. The ball joints are bad in my truck and I started to replace things on the front dana 60, on the drivers side. I have the hub off and all related up to that, I just cannot get the axle to pull out! ON another note I can move the axle at the joint of the u-joint on the axle tube side up and down, side to side by 3/8", is that normal...

ANY insight would be greatly appreciated... . Jerry

The axle may have a C clip retainer in the carrier . Remove the cover and look at the carrier. If the pinion shaft that holds the spider gears in place has a retaining bolt holding it in place . It should have C clips. Remove the bolt may want to apply a little heat to the carrier where the bolt passes though, before trying to remove it. the bolt can be stuborn due to the loc tite that is on the threads. If You want give me a call on my cell # 609 548 1651 I am at work till 1:30 am tonight.

Dumb question. Did you remove the spindle from the steering knuckle? This allows the axle shaft to be pulled though.

I can not get the steering knucke off due to the axle in place. I need to be able to drop the knuckle about 2. 5-3" in order to clear the ball joints. I am going to see tomorrow if the axle is retained by "C" clips, Currently at work.

Thanks. . Jerry
