truck/5er match height

I was in a minor accident on the way to my last race. I had a guy enter my lane of traffic in front of me who apparently did not notice the lane was occupied by my 3500 and 20' white enclosed trailer with all the lights on (Daytime on 89 N in GAP AZ)

So I had to choose the ditch, oncoming lane or him and I punched him in the corner of his chevy truck (he was not even turned straight in the lane yet. )

Luckily the coolers were only bent, not ruptured and I could finish the trip.

The receiver/ball mount each bent though as they took an impact stopping the trailer. My only quick option was to install a titan which involved cutting away the bent female part of the factory reciever. Now that I'm home I'm looking at making things right before the next race in 3 wks.

I'm told that the main part of the factory receiver hitch is a structural member of the frame and must be replaced. What type of crossmember exists on non tow option trucks? Anyone have a pic?

I may end up selling the titan or modifying it depending on what I learn. It's mega beefy but hangs kind of low and I really need the clearance. Anyone been down this road??

The unhitched trucks have a large cross member across there back ends. I saw a new dually at NW bombers party that didn't come with a hitch.

But, wouldn't any hitch you install act as a cross member?

The hitch is a structural crossmember but it is bolted in and replaceable. P/N 52110373AC, list price$147.

Thanks,

I've ordered one (Back order right now???) and will sell the titan to someone who wants the mega beef. The factory reveiver will work fine with my 8k trailer, I am going to get a weight dist hitch too.
