hi guys

i have a buddy that bought a 95 5spd and houston we have a problem. we hooked the empty gooseneck that weighs around 7k up yesterday and started out to our local 8% pass. we got about half way to the pass and we could here a ticking noise from under the hood and a loss in power. he then pushed in the clutch and the motor died. we waited about 30sec and he gave it about 1/4 throttle and it starts right back up. so back to the house we go.

so today we changed the fuel filter and went out again. here is what we know, it made on the pass today. it seems that if you have it at 1/2 throttle or more at around 2200rpm for very long it will do this. right before it starts ticking the throttle goes rock hard.

do you guys have any ideas? i thought maybe it was the overflow valve but peirs said it might be the lift pump? is it the governor freaking out?

thanks

jim

I think your best bet is to install a post filter fuel pressure gauge that can be read from the cab while driving even if it is just taped to the windshield. Try to get it to act up, if the pressure drops your problem is the probably the lift pump or clogged filters, there is one in the fuel heater and in the tank besides the main filter. If you can keep the pressure low close the return line off with pliers , if the pressure rises it's the overflow valve. If the pressure remains normal, around 20 psi, while it's acting up the problem is probably the injection pump.

thanks

i will check pressure tonight, but i just talked to peirs and he said it sounds like we have a plunger that is sticking.
