I'm pulling my hair out. Don't know what I did wrong. I have a 93 12valve and the injection pump started to leak. I had the pump rebuilt here in town and i followed all the instructions I could find to reinstall it. I also replaced the transfer pump at the same time. I can't get it to start. How can i tell if there is still air in the lines, or if I installed the high pressure lines in the wrong order. I hooked them up in the firing order 153624 and iv'e tried different combos seeing if I did it wrong. No luck. I found TDC with the timing pin, I even pulled the #1 valve cover and double checked to make sure both rocker arms were up. I've bled every line possible. I've tried every combo possible to bleed it. Now I'm discouraged. How do you tell if there is still air in it? How do I tell if its the pump timing? Everybody is too busy to help for about 2 weeks unless I take it to the dealer. (YUCK). Any insight or ideas would be helpful, im a fish out of water without the truck for work. Vance

First, is there any smoke coming out when cranking? If so, what color? Tons of white indicates retarded timing. Balck/ grey is somewhat normal. Your lines between the pump and gear housing should be lined up like they were when removed.

Is your blue solenoid power wire hooked up firmly and getting power?

How are you trying to bleed the lines? You have the firing order right, and #1 is on the bottom of the pump when installed on the truck. I have known people to try to bleed the system at the pump end, and wonder why it wont start. Just checking on ya ;)

Now, if all that checks out, start at the bleeder screw above the lift pump. Crack it open (10mm wrench), and pump the primer lever til fuel comes out. Close it and move on to the injectors. Make sure the lines are tight coming out of the pump. Crack the injector lines about 1/8-1/6 of a turn. Any more, and I seem to lose the pressure built up when cranking. Since you have to fill the entire injection system (the pump holds more than you might think), it is possible to have to crank a longer time than what would seem normal. As you get fuel to each injector, close it off tight (ok, not TIGHT, but snug enough to not leak). By getting fuel to the injector, I mean shooting a stream of fuel up onto the hood, or close to there; #6 will likely end up on the windshield.

After that, you should have it up and running. gently crack each line individually to bleed any air out of the system. when the fuel stops foaming, the air is out. Clean up your mess and enjoy the new ride.

Did excactly what you said still nothin. I think it fired once during 30 minutes of cranking, or maybe that was my imagination. I cracked the 10mm bleed screw above the brand new lift pump. Fuel came out on the first pump a lot of it. Tighted it back up. Check the blue solenoid wire its tight and has 12 volts comin out of it. All the high pressure lines are tight. Got fuel squirtin out of all the injectors. No 3 bubbled a lot but finally just about cleared up. All the rest bled out in a few minutes. Still nothin. Bout ready to trade it in for a dog and shoot the dog, can anybody think of anything else I could try. I feel like I must be missing something, but I don't see how. Please help.

I had one bought one that had done this. The kid took the head off of motor and took all the fuel lines off individualy. When he put it back together he crossed 2 of the lines. It would sometimes start but not run good and other times it would not even start. Another thing is if you got power to fuel solenoid is if it is working or not. Just because you have power to it don't mean it is working.

With the lines cracked, how far does the fuel shoot up? Are you sure you didnt have the pump gear slip a tooth while it was out? Is the pump key lined up with the keyway on the pump shaft? It sounds like if you are getting fuel to the injectors, it is a timing issue.
