Help with B&W Turnover Hitch

Installed my B&W gooseneck ball the other night, everything went fine until the end. The lever you pull to unlock the ball is located behind the wheel well skirt (the black plastic one). To pull it out and rotate it I have to grab the bottom edge of the skirt and pull out and up. Do I have the wrong handle, or do I need to bend it down, what gives?



I like the hitch, but this will make it a real pain to change the ball around.

Most people use a hole saw and drill a hole right through the liner to reach the handle, I have an 02, so I was lucky enough (if you call it that) to not have rear well liners.
 
I made a 2" hole with a hole saw and welded a short extension into the middle of the rod so I had both factory ends, this brought it out through the hole, works great.
