Help with Buddy's 85 - 6.2 GMC

A guy I work with has a 1985 2WD Suburban with a 6. 2 - auto. He pulls a trailer and wants to know if there is anything he can do to help the performance-and selling isn't an option... For example is there a better air system for these; would a flowmaster help? What about injectors? Also, can he add a turbo or will the engine not handle it? Should I have him contact Piers? I'm sure somebody out there has some experience with these.....

A good friend of mine has a 85' Suburban /w/ a 6. 2 and his has got a Banks turbo kit on it , and for a 6. 2 I think it runs very well. Just my . 02

here's an option

have him check to see if the engine has an egr intake maniflold on it if so finding an none egr manfold and installing will make worlds of difference my 83 6. 2 woke up a lot with this simple mod and changing the quiet dual exhaust to glass packs helped alot to the mufflers were pluged with soot and rusting out any way the soot build up was from the (very important ) egr system failing miserably and filled the engine with soot. that is a place to start and cheap too. The manifold I found used was like 100. 00 plus new gaskets .



hope this works for him I liked how it worked for me before it would not get out of its own way with tail wind and now it raps like crazy and goes much better

Just block off the EGR either by unhooking and plugging the vacuum line or remove the EGR valve and put a plate accross the hole. I un-hook them on my MBZ's and it makes a big difference.

I had an 82 Blazer with a 6. 2. It had the following BOMBS.



Banks Sidewinder Turbo Kit.

Pump turned up higher than specified.

3" Exhaust

Non-EGR Manifold

Boost/EGT/Oil Temp/Trans Temp guages

TH400 W/ Allison TC

3. 73 axles



I pulled 7000# with it and it didnt have a problem getting it moving, just getting it stopped. . Motor was rebuilt and turboed at 165K and is still running strong today at over 250K.



My Dodge can run circles around it. But if he's got to keep it, go to Banks or ATS for a turbo.
