I am looking into replacing the first gen and i have a few questions about the new truck i am looking at. It is and an 02 quad cab long bed, 2500 ETC 5 speed slt "SPORT" 4X4. here are the questions i have

*The guy first came back with $32,000 for the truck I know this is high given the incentives right now and the sales guy did say they would go down. what do ya'll feel is a good price

* Ok when my dad ordered his truck they asked if he wanted

anti-slip rear, I thougt what no posi on a 4x4?!?! The truck i am looking at doesn't say anti-spin axle on the window sticker as an option like some of the other trucks on the lot say SO DOES THIS MEAN THE TRUCK IS STILL REALLY A 2WD!!!!!?????? I live in the moutains and need 4x4 big time.

thanks in advance

Steve

The anit-spin rear diff. and 4WD are two different options. You can have 4WD w/o the anti-spin. I suggest getting anti-spin even if you have 4WD.

If I remember correctly, the stock anti-spin is a weenie little thing. I think I'd get it with an open diff, and then have a good shop (not the dealer) install either a Detroit Locker or a Power-lok limited slip.

My anti spin held up to quite a bit of abuse. It was effective until about 300hp. I still second what Midnite said. If you want great traction aftermarket cant be beat.

Try Dave Smith

Cowboy,

I just talked to a guy at Dave Smith and he told me 28,600 with all the rebates. I have him looking for a '02, 5spd etc, 4x4, quad cab, slt, camper package, trailer tow, convenience group, lsd, fog lights, power seat, keyless entry, and rear slider. So it has basically everything but leather, cab lights, alarm, and infinity stereo (cheaper and better to get an aftermarket one).

Nathan

P. S. the email rebate is only good until friday, as of today anyway.

Go to this site just to get pricing information. meltonsales.com They are a one price dealer and include the rebates. Don't forget to go to the Dodge web site for your instant $500 cash back. You fill out a form on the Dodge site and they email you a $500 cash back certificate within 10 minutes. Take that to the dealer for another $500 off above all of the other discounts :D About the anti spin, I agree with what has been said. I have it and I would want it. More traction is a good thing.

On my '99, I popped the hood--should be list of extras--see if LS/posi is listed--if not you don't have it... ... R, J. B. ;)

The factory LSD is junk, like LSD the drug. When you need it you can't have it. To keep the friction modifier in it to the correct amount is a pain. If I would have known this I would have ordered mine with an open diff and immediately ordered the good stuff. 2 or the 3 burnouts I have done have been a one wheel peel, the only one that was both tires was after a one wheel peel. :(

Ok i went in to larry h miller dodge and made an offer on a truck they where trying to charge me 36k for a truck that stickered for about 38,500$ i took 10. 5 % off the sticker to get invoice added in the 3000k discount from dodge 500$ internet discount and

Steve with all your listed discounts a great deal on that truck would be $31000. They were not to far off at $31700. I would go back and offer them $31,200 if they would install the hood insulation and the rear wheel well inserts, like the 2001's had from the factory. They deleted them in 02. They are nice to have. If this is the truck you have been looking for they are priced to deal. Good luck!! Keep us posted. Even if you had to split the difference it is a good deal if the dealer is local and they have a good service rep.

I would stick close to 8000 under sticker. That is what Dave Smith told me they would sell it to me for. If nothing else call Dave Smith up and they will buy it from your dealer (if they can) and sell it to you for that. Then all it will take is to fly to spokane washington and drive it home. They probably give you a free tank of gas so you could make it home on one more. So basically it will take you a tank of gas and a plane ticket to get it, oh plus some time.

On Price;

I got the Dave Smith price and an invoice from an internet dealer (can't recall the name- but it was with in about $150 of Smith), then I went to my local dealer and said I would prefer to buy from them, but if they could not match Dave Smith, I was headed for Idaho------they matched it. It was about 8K off list.

On LSD.

On my last three trucks, all 4 X 4s; 1st one had it --no problems and as an Elk and varmint hunter and hay producer it got use off road often.

2nd truck did not and when I could compare, I swore never again would I have a truck without. Even with the 4X4, I kept getting stuck on wet grass, in the hay fields; I would sit there with both left or both right wheels spinning and the two on the other side doing nothing. 4X4 without LSD is like two wheel drive in many situations.

Present truck has it and it works. Two years ago, nephew without LSD was following me on a narrow mountain road with 6 inches of snow; we both had to take to the ditch to avoid a head on with a downhill truck and trailer. I was able to pull right out with the LSD, while nephew had to winch out.

Can't immagine why people are knocking the factory LSD, In a couple hundred thousand miles on mine, no problems and lots of good help whether in a wet hay field, or a back woods road in the mud.

truck pricing

even if they don't take it the 31,200 the 31,700 is a pretty good deal in my book, I know on a 2001 I bought I worked them pretty hard on it and got them to around that. One thing to remember is that the place has to make money or they won't be around

The LSD might not be the best for dry pavement burnouts, but living in the mountains as you do, you will appreciate it when busting snow drifts and driving in snow in general. My previous truck, a chevy 1500 didn't have it and I could get stuck on a pothole filled with ice. It was a pain to wait for the 4x4 to kick in so I could get going. If you're real serious about locking up and having all the wheels spinning, I'd look at an ARB. You can get them for both front and rear on the Dodge. They are a push button (operator controlled) system. I have a buddy that has them on his truck and they are real nice. But he's a serious 4 wheeler that has lots of cash flow. That 31. 7k sounds like a good price. I know the dealer here wouldn't be able to come close to that.

update

leaning on them real heavy and finally taking the general manager talking to me. I ended up with a 02 quad cab long bed ETH with all the options except leather for 31316$maybe could have done better with dave smith in idaho but didn't wanna drive that far and deal with all the crap over again. finally got my dream truck. it sure pulls like hell compared to the old first gen i can honestly say you can't really tell the trailer is on the back it used to bounce my old first gen quite a bit i almost got a dually to handle the weight better but this truck does great and i am glad i didn't get the dually. and the brakes holy crap that is a night and day difference the old first gens would be good trucks if DC would have just but some real friggen brakes on them. And the 6 speed is da bomb. don't know why some complain about shifting probs mine shifts about as easy as a honda. Still gotta get used to the reverse gear location. now it is time for one of those edge boxes LOL

Congrats. I think you got a good deal. A few months ago you would of had to pay $1000 more than that. I think they are giving them away. I almost bought a new truck and mine is not hardly broken in :D

Don't think ill of me but I saw a Seattle ad last night in our paper with a TD at 21,999!!!! Course, no one could get all the rebates (like having graduated from college ten minutes ago) but zowie!

I just bought mine two months ago for 27,900 which was an HO with simple cab (a work truck) so I keep watching the prices and agree that they are dumping the 2002 which probably will be the last of the good ones. Whatever. GE
