Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Surging

Hey guys I am still having problems with the brakes on the truck shuddering when I come to a stop. I had the truck in for a transmission flush and cooling system flush so I had the guy at my shop check for an antilock code and these codes are what he found. PCM P1693, Trans P0500. When he drives the truck his computer does not get any speed input. Any help would be helpful!

Thanks

Is the P0500 code ALWAYS the speed sensor on the rear differential?

Not always. Driving off road or in gravel, simply spinning one rear wheel faster than the other can trigger this code. I get it all the time going off road and running through mud when the rear tires slip. It should disappear after 5 "no fault" start sequences I believe.

I'm having the exact same symptoms - a shudder under braking, usually in 4-5 seconds before 0 mph.

I've also had a code 500 pop up.

About 5,000 miles ago I replaced all brake pads, had the rotors turned, and replaced all the brake fluid.

This is anxiety-producing. I don't think it's warped rotors, because the shudder doesn't happen during ALL the braking - just at the last bit.

Maybe the trans clutches aren't releasing? Anyone have an idea?

Truck is an 2001. 5, 4 wheel disc, auto trans & non-H. O. , 2wd, with 4:10s.

Have you managed to resolve this problem now? I am having the same problem. When I slow to a stop there is a shuddering, feels like I am driving over a washboard surface. I too thought it was the brakes but I ruled them out by kicking the trans into neutral as I pulled to a stop. I replaced the governor pressure solenoid and sensor to cure a 1-2, 2-1 shift when the trans was cold. The only code I got on the key on, key off trick was P1693. I then used a scanner and got a clean transmission report but the scanner could not read the engine ecm. Message came up asking if the ignition was on.

Regards,

Richard
