I checked my engine codes tonight and it said;

1-p 0500

2-p 1693

3-p done

What do they mean, and should I worry about them. My brakes are just about done and they are being done this week. The truck runs just like new and the fuel economy is excellent.

Thanks John:cool:

Thanks Tim.

Is there a problem with my diff or is it just a sensor? I did have the truck over 110mph not too long ago! Could that be it?

Mine throws this code off at least 1nce per month. The sensor itself (Not the Rear) has an issue. If and when it gets to its severe state the truck will momentarily shut down on the highway for a seccond or so just like someone shut the key off ... ... and on again.

Mine is still throwin codes to this day. SOMEDAY I just may break out the wrench and toss a new sensor in :rolleyes: yeah right.

Check engine light?

Did the check engine light come on, or did you just check for codes? The reason I ask is that I believe that the ECM will set both the P0500 and companion P1693 codes without turning on the check engine light if there is a difference in speed detected between either of the front wheel sensors and the rear sensor. Case in point: if my truck is run on a dyno, or if the tires slip on ice or snow it will set the codes but not turn on the check engine light. It was explained to me that the ECM detected the speed difference and set a code, but doesn't't turn on the check engine light because there is a valid reason to see a difference in wheel speed. (spinning wheels on ice) Does this make sense? If this info (second hand) is not correct please set the record straight!

SHUCKS - mine will set a 1693 sometimes if I simply let it roll down the incline into the garage with the key on but engine not running...

Derned stupid computers... :rolleyes: :rolleyes:

My check engine light never came on. Just decided to check them. (gear head) That makes sense to me because it winter, really icy and I've got a 2wd. Sometimes I think my back tires travel twice the distence my fronts do!!!
