My lift pump & vp44 are on their last leg and the Dealer has confirmed this also. I have 48,586 miles on the truck and this is still covered under the warranty, BUT the dealer states that my warranty is voided because I have a Turbo Temp Monitor on the truck. For everyones information the only bombs on my truck are as follows: Turbo temp monitor with pyro gauge, boost & fuel pressure gauge, 4 inch exhaust turbo back, and a BHAF. Those are the only modifications to the truck. The Turbo Temp Monitor has nothing to do with the lift pump, it is only on the truck to help prolong the life of the turbo and keep the turbo from coking. Any suggestions with this matter would be appreciated as I feel I have done nothing wrong to void the warranty on the fuel system.

Thanks,

Joe

Legally they can only void your warranty on the parts that are affected by the parts that you modify. So in order for them to void the warranty on the lift pump, you would have had to have altered the fuel system. Then technically the burden of proof is supposed to be on them to prove that the part caused the problem. But most guys on this board have dealt with dealers that don't care about the law and won't even deal with you if you have added anything to the truck. MY ADVICE, FIND ANOTHER DEALER!

You may find that the dealer you went to has entered information regarding their 'void' in the D/C system that will show up at any dealer. Keep after them and don't accept their answer of no. I have called the customer service number on two occasions when my local dealer told me that items were not warranty items. Both cases were resolved in my favor.

Thanks for replies Thomas & Imills

I have a meeting with the Service Manager tomorrow morning to discuss this in great detail. I just want to be sure that I am going in there informed with the correct information and that the Turbo Temp Monitor (TTM) is not to be held responsible, especially when it has nothing to do with the fuel system at all!!

The Turbo monitor is part of the fuel system, but it is after the intake, valves, pistons, etc. Just another be pre-pared info. W/O the fuel system the eng dont run and the monitor is useless. Also, it is not an "ACTIVE" component of any system - its just a temp gage!

The TTM is as much a part of the fuel system as an alarm is - ie it's not. If they are going to void your warranty on your lift pump for your TTM then they'd void your warranty on it for installing any electrical item - ie aftermarket stereo, alarm system, cb radio, cell phone, new battery, etc. This is the kind of stuff that makes you go  !

GOOD NEWS!!!!

Dealer called STAR to confirm that the TTM did not void warranty and they are now going to install a new lift pump. YEAH!! Anyway, the tech said my FP gauge was actually off. He said that when they tested the pressure at the lift pump (while cranking) it was only 2-3psi and it should not be below 7psi, he said my FP gauge was reading higher. I guess I will have to get a new FP gauge when I get her back home. I am just glad that everything worked out in the end. I guess you can't blame them for cautiously approaching the $3k warranty issue, but I was still p'd off about it anyway, especially when I was just trying to protect my investment. Thanks to everyone that responded:D !
