I changed out the front brakepads and overflowed some of the brake fluid. After starting up, pumping the pedal the brake and abs lights went off, then they came back on and the odometer showed the no bus message. I tried the instrument panel self diagnostic test and got 900 920 940 and 950. Where is the CCD data Bus? How do I reflash the PCM software? I turned the ignition key on and off three times and got the codes P 1693 and P 1694. Where is the companion engine control module? I don't see where any of the brake fluid got into any wiring. Looking at the fuses marked engine- they're all good. Truck seems to run fine-but I have no gauges whatsoever.

2001 (early) 2500 2wd long bed quad 94,675 mi. Now and then while driving the gauges all come on but the MIL light stays on. Please help.

The brake fluid got into the ABS proccesor shorting out the ccd bus signal. Take the connectors out to see if fluid got in. Clean it out cause its corrossive.

Did the problem fix itself by driving around some? I got brake pads from the dealer installed partly because I just did not have time to do it and my '01 did the exact thing same 'no bus' message. However, since I paid the dealer for the pads and labor I am taking it back to the dealer. So far, this has been a very reliable truck and has 60K on it.

Exactly what Huff N Puff said, clean out any spilled break fluid immediately. It is highly corrosive, and will destroy your ABS processor (very expensive).

I found a rectangular black plastic box about 3" X 4" X 1" under the hood near the firewall on the driver's side; took the two connectors loose; they were clean and dry; took the box out; says "kelsey-hayes" on the box and has barcode and numbers stickers on it. I tried to open this box but I couldn't get it open. should I force it open? I'm still driving with the "no bus" code and no instruments, but all accessories work fine. This is a diesel engine. Thanks for your help to this rookie.
