Getting ready to buy a exhaust brake for my 02 auto. I have read many post on the brakes not sure which one to go with Banks,BD,Pac Brake I like what i read about the Banks but just how good are they same, goes for the BD. Any opinions what be great (people who run them in a auto trans. in my year truck)

I hope you realize you cannot simply add an exhaust brake made by any manufacturer unless you first provide a means of locking your torque converter and keeping it locked under deceleration when the exhaust brake is activated. If you don't, you'll be buying a new transmission very quickly.

what he said.

Brand new Banks Brake & Smart Lock trans. controller going in for me shortly. Despite others opinions about Banks for whatever reason, I have numerous of their products on my truck and believe their products are second to none in design and quality, and always good tech support as well.

Very aware of that HBarlow. I am also looking at a means of locking up the trans by a controller. Just need to make my mind up which one I want to buy as a whole kit.

For the past 4 years The Mystery switch locks the transmission and and my BD exhaust brake makes it a pleasure to go down hill with 12000 lb fifth wheel behind me. The Mystery switch is about $2. 00. There is lots of info on this site. Charlie

I have a Banks Brake and I love it. I had one problem with it, the linkage fell off and the brake hung in the middle. I called Banks tech cupport to get the size of the eclip needed to replace the linkage. they were very helpful. I fixed it from the hardware store for like 9 cents.

A friend of mine had one on a 99 auto. it worked good, but not like my manual. It took him a bit to figure out the light pedal engagement to lock up the converter. once he got that down it worked good. just a bit trickey to get the converter locked up.

i think you could probably put anyones brake on with anyones converter lockup

If i had to buy another one I would buy a pac Pxrb. only because its wastegated and louder.

I had banks reflash my computer so my brake works down to 5 mph.

I do like the fact that the banks brake works on vacuum, so there is no additional air pump, it runs off of the factory vac pump.

thats my . 02

I hope you have a modified trans as well. The stock 47RE is going to be problematic with an EB and controller.

Not only a controller, but, you will need a TQ Loc also. If you want a single source vendor then BD is going to your best option.

Talked with BD tech support today looks like I will go with the BD inline unit. I did not want the turbo mount just in case I every decide to upgrade the turbo. I will also get the BD torqloc controller for TQ lockup read a lot of info. on it seams to be a good unit. BD also said they will discontinue the towloc soon not user friendly he said needs a PC to set up.
