I've decided I wan't to install a 4' stainless exhaust with a Donaldson muffler. I found a straight pipe kit but it looks like if I put the Donaldson in I will lose the 2 exhaust mounting points that are just forward of the current muffler and are located in the center if the whole exhaust.

Those of you that have done this sort of thing, how did you hang the new system? Keep in mind, I don't weld.

Is there a kit somebody sells that uses the Donaldson?

Thanks in advance,

Scotty

My 4" AFE system w/muffler came with that double hanger as a separate piece. It would work for straight pipe also. Don't know if they would sell you just the bracket.

I'm running the AFE 4" too. I'd like to get a muffler delete pipe to throw in there every now and then, but I'm not sure I could hack running straight pipes 24/7. I put a 90 in where my AFE muffler was and dumped it before the front axle for about 4 days, but it's just too obnoxious with the exhaust brake.

I took a piece of 1/4"x2" steel strap and bent it into a "c" shape, flipped it face down. drilled holes for an extra u-bolt to run down thru on the back of the C, and then drilled up thru the crossmember for the t-case into the ears of the C. but i'm also running flex thru that section before my Y pipe so that may not work for you, but it didn't require welding and it supports that long run in the middle of the exhaust.

IMHO, go with the 4" ANSA turbo back from Genos.

Skip the stainless (unless you like to polish) go with the aluminized.

clean it with paint thinner heat it up and spray the hell out of it with heat paint.

Super sound, NO drone fits like a champ. Put one on my '04. 5 HO to get the converter and trash can off, couldn't be happier. Had 4" with the muffler delete on my '03 and the drone was awful at cruise. 300. 00 it's a bargain. People I've talked to are getting 6-7 from 'em (no stainless).

Just my $0. 02

Good luck either way

The reason I was thinking of going stainless is that the pipe after the muffler is nearly rotted out and I'd like to keep that from happening again. Or would the SS burn out too?

Do you do alot of short drives?

Not stop and go but running to the corner store and the like?

Exhaust systems generally rust from the inside out due to the collection of water/condensation from not getting the system hot enough to burn/evaporate the water. (and exhaust chemical collection)

My original exhaust on my '03 was on for 7 years (until I got broadsided and totaled) and it was still in good shape. Granted I drive 40 miles each way to work, so the exhaust gets plenty hot.

FYI, the factory exhaust is on your truck (pre-regen. trucks) was only stainless until it got to the muffler. After that it's aluminized steel i. e tailpipe.

So if yours was original and it lasted unitl now, 8 years, not to bad.

Like I said paint the hell out of the outside with heat paint to minimize corrosion from the outside. The inside that's another story.

The stainless won't rust away BUT the weld seam is another story entirely.

The weld seam will be the first to go.

just my 0. 02 from MY experience.

back in the day when I did this for a living we couldn't keep a muffler for more than a year or 2 on the granny go to market cars as they only went a mile or 2 at a time. The long haul commuter cars mufflers would last forever.

Think about it.

I actually do quite a few grocery runs of 10-15 minutes worth of driving these days.
Thanks for the info on the old system Bob. It makes sense since it's only after the muffler that it's rotting out.

I have well over 200k on my 300-series SS system from Summit Racing... have had zero problems with it. If you get a quality system (and I don't think Summit is that good) and install it correctly (read: its supported evenly), it should last a long time.

Make sure whatever SS you get is 300-series or "anti-magnetic", because some places sell 400-series SS and it will rust.
