I'm finally trying to hook up my gauge lighting.

Tan wire off light switch?

My question: How do I remove bezel? Didn't want to start pulling on things and breaking clips.

Thanks, TC

Hi.

It is a piece of cake. Unsnap the dash bezel (make sure to disconnect the power outlet and cigar lighter when you loosen it up) and unscrew the headlight switch. You will find a cluster of wires behind, one of which is an orange and white/tanish wire. To ease your mind before splicing, just put a voltmeter to it and turn the dimmer.

It is scarier than it sounds. (at least it was for me)

Jim,

Do you have the ability to dim the gauge lights in tandem with the instrument lights? I am under the impression that is the reason for tapping into the orange wire.

Thanks

Wasn't sure how the bezel was attached. I've pulled on things in

the past and ended up breaking expensive parts, so I thought I'd ask. So, it just unsnaps, like the pillar? Thanks for the replies. I'm trying to run down some fuse taps to hook up from the front of fuse block. Looks like the hot way to go.

Thanks again, TC

tcourse,

The wire in your light switch that you want to tap may be TAN in your year truck. It was in mine. Top left looking at the front of the switch. To pull the bezel, lower your steering wheel and put your shift lever in 1st gear. Just pull the bezel straight out. I've had mine off many times. No broken clips.

BTW, your gauges will dim w/ the dash lights when you tap this wire.

Tcourse,

For what it's worth, I tried having my gagues wired into the

dash lights and didn't like it like that. Couldn't see the damn things during the day with the lights off!! I turned around and

taped into the fuse block at a circut that was hot with the ignition on. Am a happy camper now. The gagues are readable during the day and are still the perfect brightness at night too. BTW, all my gagues are Westech gagues with the single bulb and colored

"condom" for green light, matches the dash lights almost perfectly. . Just an idea... ... ... Have fun.

I tapped into the fuse block at the left end of the instrument panel with a minitap to pick up the factory gauge lights. My Westachs' illumination goes up and down with the dashboard lighting, and it's worked out fine for me - I used the green light shields in the Westachs.

There is one screw inside the power outlet access cover that must be removed before pulling the dash bezel on a '98. Lift up the little door and you'll see it.

Since I don't smoke, I used the light form the ashtray. Removed the bulb socket and made up a connjector from 2 spade connectors and ran the wite to my steering column mounted gage.
