Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) help with lift pump install

i am going to install a new liftpump tomaro. my question is do i need to bleed that air out of the new lift pump befor it will work? if so how would i go about doing it.

When everythings installed I just bump the starter and listen for the LP to cycle. . takes about 20sec or so to complete. Do this 3 or 4 times and it should fire up.

When I did mine, I had to bleed the line at the Injection pump after bumping the starter. After that it fired right off.

The overflow valve in the VP44 has a very small air bleed hole in it. I assume this is to facilitate fuel filter changes by allowing the lift pump to push the air through the pump.



Should be able to bump the key, and I mean bump, and all the air should be out by the forth or fifth time. I have had some success on a dying pump a while back that hard a hard time starting, by holding my foot half way to the floor and cranking a little, once it got going, I slowly let off the throttle and all was well.



Cracking the lines should not be necessary with a healty pump and by just barely bumping the key several times.

As mentioned... the system was designed to purge air without cracking injection lines or fuel delivery lines. IF for some reason it doesn't start right up and keep running... hold the pedal to the floor and crank for 15-20 seconds non-stop. It should fire, run rough for a few seconds, then clear up. DO let the starter cool for 5-10 minutes after an unsuccessful attempt of long cranking.
