Adding new Soy Cooking Oil

Stanadyne Lubricity formula doest make sense?

I wondered if anyone has experience with mixing bio from wvo. My 1st batch came out a caramel color but foggy. My 2nd batch came out like jelly. I followed instruction from utah biodiesel to a t. The titration was a little high but from what ive seen on youtube people make fuel from the nastiest looking oil. and it comes out pretty clear. Any help would be appreciated.

EWalshak,

I have a buddy that has done a number of batches. What is the temperature? The Biodiesel is very sensitive to lower temps and will get cloudy before gelling. Filtered thoroughly? Remove the glycerine?

I will be seeing my buddy tomorrow and ask the expert... he knows his fuel!(I am serious... he owns a fuel business and has been making biodiesel for several years).

I titrated the oil. Using the equation from utah biodiesel, I figured out the amount of catalyst. Heated the oil to 135 deg. Made sure the catalyst was disolved into the methenol. Mixed it together and let it settle. Abra cadabra!!! BROWN JELLY. I believe that my problem lies in the fact that I put to much catalyst into the mix and I dont know how much to use other than following the instructions from utah biodiesel. Unless I just start to scale back on catalyst until it works. I would be interested in hearing what your friend has to say. Thanks

EWalshak,

I talked with my buddy. He smiled when I told him of your plight. He had the same problem when he started. He says to wash again; then one more time. He does his first wash of 3 hours; the 2nd for 2 hours and the last for 1 hour. You need to remove all of the lye, alcohol, to prevent problems with the seals/orings etc. He said that after his first batch the problem has not recurred.

His name is Ray Valcich... we all call him Gig. If you would like to call and talk to him he would help you over the phone. Send me an email and I'll give you his phone number; he said the best time to call is after 6 pm...

I think I figured out what I was doing wrong. The instructions said to shake aggresively for 5min. I read the shake part but didnt catch the "aggresively for 5min" part. It looks good, we will see as it settles out.
