i just bought a 99 CTD with 75K on it. i sent in an oil sample to a local analisy and should be geting the results back tomaro, what things should i keep my eye out for that could give me an indication of what condition the engine might be in. also when i drained the oil from the engine there were yellow bubbles in it. any ideas on what this might be. Cummins west said that some delerships put a die in the oil that gloes in black light to check for leaks. but i place a sample of the oil under a black light and nothing.

The lab will provide you with a report that should indicate areas of concern. With that said to really determine a problem with an engine you need to run a series of analysis as you need a base line and then ongoing samples to get a picture of what is going on.

But you can look at the amount of wear metals and silicone in the oil and it will give you a good general idea of how well things are being filtered and if your engine has any major issues.

Post the results of the analysis here and there will be many who can provide you with information.

I do not know what the yellow bubbles are but would not worry about it until oil analysis comes back. How many miles on the sample you sent in??
