Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Help with sale price 98 12 v

Hey guys I am not to good a pricing used vehicles and need some help.



A friend of mine has a 98 Quad Cab 4WD Dually 5 spd for sale under 40k on the odo here are the options. What do you think how much should I try to get for it. I need to take a run up to see if there is anything elseon the truck, I haven't seen the truck in some time. I did most of the mods and installs years ago. The truck was wrecked when it was almost new, front end collusion but this guy is very picky and it was fixed by a very good body shop and was done right no expense was to much. This is a very rare truck to the right person this could be worth something special I am sure.

NADA shows $16,400 to $19,000. With that low mileage and the extras, I would think this would be on the low end.

It's not a salvage/rebuilt title from the collision damage is it? As long as it's a clean title and doesn't show the incident on a Carfax or AutoCheck report, I'd say right about $20k - but that could still be low depending on the person who's looking at it. Either way, that truck most definitely belongs on eBay! Put it on there with a reserve of about $20k and just see what happens... . that is, after Forrest takes a shot at it.

Sorry to say this, but it ain't worth NEAR $20K. A buddy of mine sold his that was just like it with only 25K miles for $7500 just the other day. I get the feeling your buddy's a good guy though and I'll give him $8500 for it. Just give me his name and address and I'll take him cash... ... .....

Despite what we like to think the ultra low mileage doesn't really help. Most people are happy if it is under 100K, some under 150K. Granted if you find the right buyer they will pay lots. The 12V have dropped somewhat as now there are 3rd gens with some mileage on them that can be had.

That is completely not true. Have you even seen a 2nd Gen 12V with under 40k lately? Watch the ones that sell on eBay that are extremely clean with even "relatively" low miles (even under 100k is hard to find).



What high mileage 3rd Gens are bringing plays no part in this either - and "most" people aren't even going to have the coin to merit any business looking at a 12V with under 40k.



Let's make no bones about it, this truck is worth some $$$.

There was one on ebay and didn't it bring like like $16K?? As I said you find the right person it can bring some money, but check the value of the same truck a year ago and it is down a pretty good chunk. Part of it economy, part of it 3rd gen trucks getting some mileage on them and bringing down the demand for the 2nd gens.

One of the things that also kept the value of the 12V was the VP44 issues. Lots of people would of assumed have a 12V over a 24V for that reason, especially since the body styles were pretty much the same. One other thing find a bank that will loan you much over 15K for a 12V. This all plays in to the market price.



I don't think it is worth $20K. Will it bring $20K?? Possibly. In reality an item is worth what someone is willing to pay.

i payed 18k for my 98 12v 2500 with 84k on the clock one owner and clean real clean all stock too and that was a bonus. i feel that i payed top dollar but how many 98 crew cab long bed five speed 2500 are there bone stock with one owner. a truck is worth what the buyer pays obviosly but if i wanted a dually i would give 20k for a truck like that but book is probablly around 16k retail that was what mine booked at.

Man I see some folks on here who are dreaming with prices. I'm sorry, but I think 20k is nothing but a dream. Now, could you hold out for the right person and get 16k, yeah. But from someone whom shops 98' 12valves daily, 20k wouldn't even allow me to take a look at it. I paid 11500 for my 98 1 yr ago, but of course it had 168k miles. But it is sharp. I would say the truck would sell for 16k. I'll give 15k for it right now

Bottom line it is only worth what someone is willing to pay. Do I think it is worth that no. Why cause you it won't appreciate in value, and if I buy one with 150K that is clean, you can throw alot of replacement parts at something you pay 8K or 9K for and end up with a better truck to boot.

I agree, the 12V QC is neat, but it has to remain reasonable. I know if I get any 12V truck, I'll be doing a lot of work and parts swapping before its the way I like it, whether it be 94 through to 98. Other things would play a factor as well, like is it a 53 block? Not likely but still possible. Considering I liked what I saw, I'd give in the ballpark of 17-18K for a truck like that. 20 if it had extras like steering, SB clutch etc and the KDP was already done.

EDIT: just noticed the extras, with those its worth every bit of 20K IMHO.
