Alright so here is what I want to do. I want one pipe possibly to right b ehind cab miter cut. My question is... What are the ups and downs? I am going for performance. Should I do one or two? should I not go stacks and straight pipe it in front of the rear tires? Give me some ideas or some links. Thanks for the Help!

It all depends on what you like.

I'm personally not a fan of the pipe before the wheels, since it will turn your wheel pitch black almost instantly.

man, I'm glad nobody told my wheel that!!! been running that setup for 40k now. the center cap gets a little dingy, but the polished alloy stays pretty dang clean. the soot washes right off of the cap

Bleh! Thats the Duramax look!

Let that Cummins BREATHE through twin stacks! There is no better performing exhaust configuration save for the giant single exiting through the hood.

twin stacks on a cummins seems foolish to me. Exactly, only one exhaust pipe coming out of the engine bay, these arent V8's. Plus it eats so much of your bed space up. I've recently added some cool mods to my truck, not listed in sig, and like the discrete look of the exhaust in the stock location, even though it is a 4" straight piped. I know the truck will run with the best of em, but dont need stacks to make it look tough, I dont have anything to prove.

Deleted my long post back up to this point and starting again. I just wonder why the quoted statements come from single stackers like clockwork. Is everything for everyone practical? Do you guys assume dual stacks are done for the sole purpose of "looking tough"? Do you also assume I have something to prove? Just curious. The word foolish in a thread such as this seems ignorant to me.

Like I stated, to each their own. . get what YOU want and what YOU like.

I personally think a single stack looks strange(a little nicer than "Gay"), but I'll definitely echo others sentiments in saying get what you like. Who cares if there's only one pipe coming out of the engine bay? V8 diesels only have one pipe coming out of the engine bay too. GET WHAT YOU WANT, NOT WHAT EVERYONE ELSE HAS/WANTS. I have dual stacks and they are the taller ones that stick out a foot above the cab. Not the discrete ones that are pretty much inline with the roof of the cab. I know it's "overboard" and sticks out like a sore thumb but I don't care. It's my truck and I'll do it the way I want it. Certainly receives a lot of attention, including a "Hey, you have a nice truck" comment from a very beautiful woman at a kwik-E-mart. Thank goodness the wife wasn't with me, she probably would've been a little unhappy. :D:-laf

I have stacks and some people don't like them and some do, those who don't I just tell them look the other way. I have a diverter valve(like Hayden I think) so I can run exhust down below when pulling the 5er. I like them and that is what maters, they sound good, no performance difference, nothing to prove. I agree mod your truck the way you want it.

To be honest w/you I dont think you'll have any performance diff from single, duals,or even the single side exit as long as their the same diameter. So its like everyone else is saying its all in what you like. One thing I do have a suggestion about though is if you park your truck outside you might want to go with stacks w/turnouts or side exit because of rain.

a single stack setup with one long radius 90* bend will spool up better than dual stacks with the restriction of the Y pipe and extra 90* bends, especially with only half the exhaust gas going through each 90... it kinda stagnates in there.

in normal driving situations with a "street" turbo, you'll likely never notice a difference, but in a competition application with a large turbo, the single stack can be a definate advantage
