Archived Help with starter contacts

this starter is getting on my nerves and I cant take it anymore. Turn the key and nothing happens. turn it again it starts. sometimes takes twenty times before she will kick.



i think it needs contacts but have never done this before





PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Very easy install. Just get the parts and follow the directions on the above site... . I just did mine a week ago. The hardest part was breaking the bolts free from the starter. the one contact on mine was almost burnt right through and very pitted.

I also had to get the battery side stud replacement kit (purchased it locally). Even after using PB Blaster and letting it sit for awhile, I still twisted the bolt off. Other than that problem, it was an easy job to put the contacts in. Have driven the truck maybe 20k or so since install. Working great.

Install of the contacts is a snap. The difficult part, as mentioned above is, getting the starter out.

There will be a ball bearing inside. Don't forget to reinstall it. This is so easy to do I actually forgot to consult the instructions. I also used Larry B's contacts.
