startup problem over revving getting frustrated

I need some input. My truck started to act up again. Its been in the shop 11 of the past 30 days from routine maintanence to complete failure this isnt her month. When I started it this morning it stalled after running 1 second and threw a code. Later when I started it it revved up to about 1600 rpm like i stomped the throttle then returned to idle and threw a code. It has done this multiple times but is only about every 10th start. The second it fires is when it revs up kinda like im giving it half throttle while cranking the engine. As soon as it figures out its reving it returns to normal idle. It seems to be running normally otherwise.

Help me im becoming angry with her. Shes giving me too many problems as of late.

I turned my comp off and it still revs up with the box off. I had a stall today . It stalled and would not restart after a WOT run. It was around a sharp corner and the tank was low so Im thinking it momentarily lost prime. My fp readings were very twitchy when it wouldnt start. I had to hold the pedal halfway down to get it to fire. It like there was air in the system. It ran fine afterwards. Did some more WOT with no adverse effect.

I know if you hold the peddal down when you start it you will mess up the calibration of the TPS/APPS. The truck will start to think that half throttle is the idle position. You might try unhooking the batts and waiting for a while and then hooking the batts back up. Turn the key to the start position and slowly push the peddle to the floor and let it back up. Then turn the key off and then back on and start the truck.

Your problem might be caused by the TPS calibration. In the 98 model year (maybe other years also) there is a procedure to recalibrate the TPS-ECM.

Here are the steps. Turn the ignition to run but do not start the engine. Also leave your foot off the accelerator. Then slowly press the accelerator to the floor and slowly release it. Turn off the ignition switch.

This is supposed to reprogram the ECM to the TPS. It may be a long shot but it costs nothing to try.

I took the drag chip out and replaced it with a normal comp chip. The problem hasnt reoccurred. I assume it is a bunk chip. I will be sending it back for a replacement soon.

Heres the new problem. Im driving down the highway and all is fine. I cruise up a hill and she does it effortlessly. I get to the top and hit the brakes cause traffic is stopped on the freeway due to construction. I get to about 40 mph and it stalls and will not restart. It still wont start but it hasnt thrown a code. When it got funky the fuel pressure needle was really jumpy but on the high side. Now the needle is stable and still no start. The fuel pressure is in excess of 16 psi. WOT nets about 12 psi with the drag comp on 5x5.

I just replaced my banjos and did not notice if any one of them was larger than the other. While I was digging in my tool box last night I noticed than one of the old banjos was shorter than the rest. Is this the banjo that went in the vp44? Could I have starved it for fuel by using the longer banjo leading to its untimely demise? I am once again without my pride and joy for another 5 days. Why dont these damn things break on a weekday?

got it running. It somehow got air in the system so I get to isolate that now. woo hoo. My gf is jealous of my truck. "You never spend time with me your always screwin with your truck. Why dont you **** it". Good idea.
