got a 03 with a leaky trans cooler hose,not sure which one it is pressure or return,looks like its the upper(shorter) one. Any way,the pressure hose is on a national backorder cant get one anywhere,and we are leaving on a 4000 mile round trip in a week!

QUestion 1. what type of connecters are on the hoses?

2. is there anyway to retrofit a hose?

3. what kind of pressures are we dealing with?

any helpwould be great,short notice i know but kinda stuck. :{:{
 
I had the same issue with both of my lines and ran into the same issue with the back order problem. I grabbed a pipe cutter and cut off right behind the hoses and went to NAPA and grabbed some 1/2" transmission line and some clamps and the problem solved. Cost about $25 in parts and have been running this way for a few years now with no problems. I asked my transmission builder if this was ok and said everything would be fine. Beats spending $150 for 2 new hoses fromt he dealer. Hope this helps
 
There should be very little pressure on those lines IIRC... I believe they dump back into the pan.

I used a hydraulic hose assembly on a 99 I owned... replaced the steel line. Not sure if the newer trucks still have threaded fittings, but that's an option.
 
I just repaired one this week. The fittings in the cooler and the checkvalve are #8 O-ring boss to flair. I had a hydraulic hose made up for $50. 00 & replaced the entire metal line.

Well, had a company called Ice Cold in Grafton Wisconsin build me one He used the stock ends and new hose and crimps looks like oem! Ill put on tommorw and make sure she works. This guy can make any hose/line u can imagine lots of Dodge and Gm stuff

Uhhh... ... . no. The cooler runs anywhere from full line pressure to about 50% of line pressure in them, 50 to 100 psi depending on rpms and lockup. The return is what lubes the drive train of the trans so they need to be decent hoses.
 
There was very little pressure on the return line of my 99, it just dribbled out when the line cracked... there was very little pressure. The crack was almost 2/3 the diameter of the tube... so its not like it was minor.



I drove the truck from somewhere in OK to Grants, New Mexico before I decided to repair it... had a custom hydraulic line made at Napa. In that time, I lost less than 2 quarts.

Evidently it was a less serious than you thought. ;)



If you have ever truly blown a cooler line you would know just how much pressure there is and how long it takes to dump most of the fluid on the ground and the bottom of your truck. :mad:



Guarantee less than a couple miles at hiway speeds and it don't move so well no more, and, everybody behind you is wondering where the sticky red rain is coming from. :-laf



I have blown and broke lines on all of them; 727, 46RH, 47RH, 47RE, 48RE. Cooler return lubes the trans and is under a minimum of 25 psi at an idle and a whole lot more at rpm. Check your FSM for the fluid flows to the cooler at different times.
