Help. Xmission problems in Baja 700 miles south of border
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
l999 D. diesel 24v, 4X4 3/4 tn 105,000 miles, warrantee just expired!!!I'm 250 miles north of LaPaz (nearest Dodge dealer) in small town named Loreto.
Tran suddenly without warning, decided to not shift to second, sped up to 4,000 rpm's no shift to 2nd. (no prior problems) Parked it. Went for lunch.
Came back drove off with NO problem. Several stops & starts and sometimes it would shift to 2nd & 3rd, sometimes it wouldn't shift to 2nd. I'm afraid to drive it to LaPaz!!!! Anyone know if it can be hurt if I do drive it should I be able to get it to shift into other gears. There will be some stops necessary driving because of intersections on the way down. Reverse works great. Will driving it create "other problems" should it suddenly decide to downshift to 1st, or is that possible? I'm hung up here until I can resolve this. Is it electrical or IN the transmission. I have appointment with a Mexican transmission mechanic in 4 hours from this posting. I'll be "hanging here" seeking some advise. I have ZERO mechanical ability (yeah I know. What the heck am I doing in Mexico then/)!!!!!!!! Thanks to any & all who might know beside the shifting cable potential I found on another link> Phil R Or email me at -- email address removed --
