Was going to do first band adj. on transmission today 98. 5--24V. 46,000mi Not sure if trans is a 46 or 47. Any way of telling. Saw post on here a year ago about serial numbers but can not find it.

46,000 miles on a 98. Wow, I think you probably have the lowest mileage truck on here!

Yeah it's a 47RE.

47RE

Tighten to 72 in/lbs.

Front band- back off 1 3/4 turns

Rear band (wrap)- back off 3 turns.

Thank you!

Guys I too thought it was a 47, However I cannot find any 47 stamped, or cast in the case anywhere. And what bothers me is the last two digits in the serial number I did find etched on the case are 46. Any clues or help?

Nate--bought the truck new in 98 it stays in the garage most of the time. Comes out on weekends to pull to the race track only.....

B. G. ---Are the numbers on the bell housing part of the trans? On top maybe where I cannot see them?

The transmission code is on the body code plate. My 99 manual says the plate is located under the passenger seat or on the front face of the radiator closure panel. The fourth line from the bottom up contains the code, it is three letters and should be the 13th, 14th and 15th digit in that line. A 46RE would be DGT and a 47RE would be DGP. Don't know if this will be the same for your truck. bg
