I lost my cruise control yesterday and was going to bring my truck in to have it checked, now it won't stay running!!! Truck starts up, runs for about 3 seconds, then dies. I just ran the Smarty in it, it's pulling a p2509 code, and better yet, I can't remove SW3 which is currently installed in the computer since the Smarty won't connect with the ECM... . it just keeps telling me to turn the key on and off!!!!!!! HELP!!!:{

p2509 is powerdown data loss error... Sounds like a battery problem. . Maybe this is way you can't connect your smarty?

Possible Causes

POOR CONNECTIONS AT THE BATTERIES

LOW BATTERY VOLTAGE

OPEN FUSED B+ TO ECM

OPEN GROUND CIRCUIT

BATTERY + SHORTED TO OTHER CIRCUITS

RETURN CIRCUIT SHORTED

BATTERY + SHORTED TO GROUND

INTERMITTENT CONDITION

Just recharged the batteries fully with a 2 hour charge on each, now when you turn the key to the "on" position, the whole dash lights up and none of the gauges move. Engine turns over fast but will not fire. Smarty will not connect to the ECM for anything including engine codes. Talked to Bob Wagner and tried resetting the ECM by popping the positive cables back on the batteries with the key in the on position. Still having the same result. I'm really starting to get ****** at this truck. Anyone have any ideas on what is going on here? PLEASE

I am really not getting this now... just reset the ECM again by leaving the positive terminals disconnected for 30 minutes, reconnected and the truck started up like nothing ever happened!!! This is starting to freak me out. I think a new set of batteries are in my near future, as the stockers are over 5 years old, but they have never given me any indication of being low in charge. Anyone else have anything like this ever happen? I'm assuming the charge as of last night was below 10. 5V, which to a CRD means no start. Anyone?:confused:

Jong,

That P0259 trouble code is set when low voltage is detected by the ECM for a set period of time. It's caused by (among other things)... you guessed it... low battery voltage! But besides low battery voltage, high resistance in the wiring which supplies the ECM, or a short, or an open circuit can trigger the problem. Basically it's triggered anytime the ECM just isn't getting enough juice.

It sounds like you either have a battery problem, or something is draining the batteries, or possibly the batteries aren't being charged by the alternator. You'll just have to troubleshoot the battery / charging system. The good news is it doesn't sound like you have a problem with the ECM. It's doing what it's designed to do.

Good luck,

John L.
