12  I am sitting in the Cummin's shop in Eugen, OR awaiting a turbo which they are not sure will solve my problem. Last Thursday I lost power, the exhaust temp climbed rapidly, the boost pressure dropped to nearly zero and I was belching black smoke.

Went into a 5 star dealership in Cottage Grove who said my lift pump was bad and had to be replaced. Since I failed to remove my mods, I was informed my warranty was no good and the price was $600. 00 which I had to pay.

Hit the road again and again the same problem.

The dealership gave up and set an appointment with Cummin's in Eugene where I am now awaiting a turbo to be shipped from Mexico. I was told the turbo fan did not turn freely and they thought that was the problem. Before I pay $1,000. 00 for another turbo that might solve the problem and might not. Has anyone had this problem before and what solved it?

I won't be any help with the problem you are having, but I suggest you look in the travel companion for the members of the NW Bombers. From all accounts they are an excellent bunch and will help if possible. Personally I would pay about $600 for a turbo and get a Piers PDR HX-35 and install it myself or with help from the NW Bombers. If the bearings in your turbo are shot or the shaft bent you can have the problems are.

What were the conditions when you noticed the problem?

$600 for a lift pump is highway robbery to say the least. Cummins is expensive for labor but their work is usually excellent and their diagnosis on the button.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. I guess when ever a dealer sees a bombed rig come in they feel they are fair game. From now on I will only use diesel shops. I am currently waiting for the turbo to be installed. Probably be another hour or so. I hope to be back on the road before dark.
