Yesterday, I left work to find my auto was stuck in first gear. Shifter could be moved, park, reverse and neutral were fine. But any forward gear selected would not shift out of first. Called local dealer and two auto shops, no help at all. They said to bring it in the next day and we'll look at it. Here is the problem (which I explained to each shop), I use a wheelchair due to a rodeo accident and my truck is the only vehicle I can drive. Not to mention I live 30 miles out of town and my truck won't shift out of first! Anyway, called a not so local dealer that I have used before with great success and trust. Shop manager tells me I have an electrical problem and it is probably one of two sensors located on the transmission. (Here is the tip part) He said to pull the transmission relay in the fuse box next to the driver's side battery. This will allow me to manually shift 1st - 3rd, just no overdrive and will save me a wrecker bill to get to their shop the next morning. Guess where I took my truck this morning. Did not have an empty bay for my truck, so they changed the sensor on the outside of the transmission in the parking lot and test drove it. Less than two hours and a hundred dollars later I am on the road again and back to work before lunch time.
As far as I am concerned there is at least one good dealer I know. Even if I do have to drive to another state to get to them. Thanks for listening.
