Got a question for 94-98 12 v owners; What does the stock exhaust look likein the cat to muff area? I thought the cat was flanged. Mine is clamped to the pipe ahead of it,has a funny weld at the rear on a 4" or so pipe coming out of it. This pipe is clamped to the muffler. It don`t look OEM to me, so the question is this: Am I looking at an already gutted Kat? Hate to rip it out if it`s already been SPAYED! TIA, Don.

I believe the stock convertor has a 3 inch inlet and 4 inch outlet to the muffler. And vice versa on the stock muffler. But it has been a while since I looked at one. I would check it anyway you will know right away if it has had surgery from the inside.

Don't remember what the front of it looked like, but mine had a 4-inch pipe coming out the back of it, also, and I know it wasn't fixed.

Alright, here goes. I've been wanting to ask this question since I found TDR but I didn't want to look like the un-knowing idiot that I am! I have been told that my 1995 does not have a "kitty" but instead has a resonator located in front of the muffler. Is this a resonator or a full grown CAT? Please have mercy on my lack of knowledge.

93 and under- muffler

94-98 12 valves- cat and muffler

98. 5 24valves and newer-resonator and muffler.

yep, the cat goes from 3" to 4" and the muffler goes from 4" to 3". the front of the cat is clamped (really hard by dodge:rolleyes: ) and the rear 4" part has a dimple on the top (that feels like a weld) and makes for taking the cat apart from the muffler difficult too.

Tom is right. I unclamped the front and sawzall'ed the back. If you don't get inspected annually, get a 3" to 3 1/2" adapter, a 3 1/2" to 4" adapter and a section of 3 1/2" pipe. I got this recipe from a post by illflem. You can order it from Napa along with all the associated clamps/straps to put it back together.

I only did mine so I could slide the tail pipe back a bit to make room for my mudflaps. I didn't have guages at the time, so I don't know if it made any performance increase.
