The stock fix lasted 3 years. I may go to the heater treater upgrade this time, heat to dash vents only & toes get cold.

I was wiggling the vent selector switch on the way to work this morning and I was able to get the heat to the floor. It defaults back to the dash after the fan switch is cycled off-on. I looked for a switch from other than the dealer and apparently it is a dealer only item. Does anyone know more about the control availablity other than dealer or used. I know, this thread is a yawner.

Wow, a paying member here for 7 years and can't get a response. Google is free but not much help either.

I should have posted it under something other than truck issues... . Maybe stupid people or ammo... Guess i will just tear into it and figure it out on my own.

Good luck with the TH - guys seem to be happy with it. I've just been lucky that after the first failure and a repair by the dealer, I've had no further problems other than a persistent rattle they left me.

But hey, speaking of making it in the quarterly,. . I got two pics "published" in the most recent one! Oo.

Thanks for the response P Dog. I will look for you in my morning pre-shower reading of the TDR. I will hit the 1/4 Million mile mark next week. Can't complain as I am not walking 60 miles to work. My switch wiggle trick lasted only one time-one way on the commute.

I used search but haven't found a troubleshooting post for diagnosing the problem that includes the controls. I remember a site that has all of the wiring connector diagrams and will start with jumping out the switch connectors to eliminate it first. Hand warmers in the toes of the boots until then!

Don't know about the 3rd Gen's, but my 94 Ram Gasser 2500 Evap leaked and I replaced it myself. I inadvertently pinched the Vacuum line and it wouldn't switch from defrost. The point of the story is, I found out it was vacuum controlled. Question for the 3rd gen'ers that have repaired themselves, is it electromechanical or vacuum activated? I had the vent door repaired by the dealer on my 04. 5 CTD.

I have the exact same problem and I have assumed it was the blend door issue. I am out of warranty so its all on me and its to cold out to work in the driveway.

I have been looking at the heater treater option but I didn't see 2009 listed on the site the last time I was there.

Post your findings when you find the issue, I am curious.

You could have a bad actuator, they are electric on my '06. I think the vacuum controls stopped with the 2nd gens.



There should be something in the service manual as far as a test. I know that some need to be reset so that the operating range of the actuator / door unit syncs with the command given by the heater controls.



I do not have my service CD with me right now or I would take a look for you. There has been so much door trouble that a bad actuator might get overlooked at first read.

I don't have the manual yet, but I am going to pull it into the garage this weekend. I'll start with jumpering the connections to the selector.

I think most of the problems Re with the factory plastic heater doors. They and then don't operate. I replaced mine with the HeaterTreater doors (metal -won't break like the factory doors) and I am completely satisfied.

I did the heater treater repair on my truck and it was the best way to go. We used a mini jig saw to do the cutting and it was a snap. Took about 2 hours the first time and my Son in Law said he could do it in 45 min or less now.

I have the factory manual from my 2002 gasser, same cab. I wonder if the system is much different? I have the same visual look the controls that the '02 had.

Do you have duel heat control on your system? If so you will only be able to use the mode 1 and recirc door from Heater Treater. I ordered all four and ended up sending two back.

No, this is the single zone basic, exactly like the '02 1500 I had prior.

3rd Gen actuators automatically re-calibrate every time you start the engine.

Pull dash, install Heater Treater doors and forget about it.

Temp are warming up and the dash blow will be fine until fall. It will probably get stuck on floor only during AC season. :-laf
