I have a 01 4x4 with a 47re and it is giving me all kinds of fits first of all the second gear band broke just normal driving I pulled trans out took it too the shop took it apart and that was the only thing wrong with it we took the whole thing apart and that was it,so we put it all back together and it has worked like a pack mule for 2 weeks and now it is not shifting out of 2nd I just took the entire valve body off and took the whole thing apart and too find nothing and there was never any codes in the computer at all I did check all that first. . I also just put a solenoid and the pressure switch in it as well new today and it was new about 4 months ago too but they gave me new ones under warranty put the truck all back together and it was fixed yeee haa nope im wrong it just worked fine for like 7 miles and then did the same stuff again and there is still no codes in it. in the last 4 months it has had a new TPS and and the speed sensor. Had trans looked at and the solenoids replaced 2 times and now I am beside myself. Just took it for another drive and it will not go past 2nd no matter what you do any help would be great. Thanks

OK so it's an 01, lotta miles? My 99 started slipping at like 139k, no bombs till I did the trans.

I'm not sure but if the cooler (right side of engine) has never been flushed you could have some "yuk" in there that breaks loose and cloggs up the solenoids. Possible? Since you do something to the trans then it's OK for a while and then and then. However, give the folks at DTT a call, doesn't matter if your trans is stock or not from them they're good folks and will take some time on the phone w/you to help you "phone trouble-shoot" problems. That's customer service! and you don't have to be a customer. Mention you are a TDR member, they are as well. Good luck.

It only has 118k miles there is no cooler we took it off and put aftermarket on it and the lines are nice and clean as well as the fluid. . I will give Stefan or Bill a call and see what they say. . Thanks

Disconnect the 8 pin harness going to the valve body.

Then go drive the truck.

Try to shift it manually, the truck should shift all the way to third and will not have lock up or OD. When you need to get the truck back into first put the shifter in neutral and then down to first.

Let us know what happens.

Ok thanks I will try it in the morning and if it shifts from there where do I go?? We put a new sensor in the tail shaft of the trans about a month ago that is all that the Dodge dealer could find wrong with it and it did not fix it either. . But I wil try what ever it takes to figure it out. Thanks Again for the help. . TJ

Ok did the 8 pin harness disconnect and the trans did shift. I cant believe it did. . Now where do I go from here??

I did drive it before I did it and it did shift fine 2 times then the 3rd time it went too pot again then I unhooked it and it worked??

Thanks TJ

i would check the harness to the transmission ,that is not rubbing somewhere or the insulation falling apart with oil contamination, then make sure you can comunicate with the pcm not the engine control, seems wrong that you have no codes ,try to see live data from the pcm and check that the check engine light comes on when you open the switch, then try with a known good working computer, hope it helps.

Definitely check the wiring harness, but it could just be the PCM is failing... it's not unheard of.

A refurbished PCM from Auto Computer Exchange on eBay is only $199 delivered. I've ordered from them and found they're very accommodating and great to work with. If you don't see a PCM listed for a diesel powered Ram, just ask them for one using the "Ask Seller a Question" link on a PCM listing for a gasoline powered Ram (which they always seem to have listed).

They'll need to know your truck's year, Fed or CARB emissions, that it's auto transmission equipped, VIN, mileage, and ideally the Dodge part number off the current PCM. They'll flash the replacement PCM with the appropriate Dodge software, your VIN, and mileage (required for the ABS), and usually ship it to you the same day. If you return your old one, they say they'll extend a lifetime warranty on the one they just sold you.

Good luck,

John L.

Sorry for taking so long to reply.

I would normally go after the gov solenoid but you have already replaced that... Next I would say the tail shaft sensor, but you have also replaced that.

You really need to get a scan tool on the truck and look at the gov pressure and tail shaft speed. Your gov pressure should read about 1 psi per mph.

You should have some kind of codes if you have a wiring harness issue.

At this point we have narrowed it down to being something electrical. Try what I said and post back.
