I've got an early '98 12v work truck I want to install a cool down circuit using a line voltage timer. Nothing fancy, just a wind up timer hooked to 12 volts and what to hook the other end to is the question. Spent an hour pooring over old posts looking but coundn't find what I needed.

Just need to know what wire, color and location or terminal, or plug to hook too. Got rid of all my old shop manuals, so that won't help.

Hope some one take pity on me and supplies the answer.

Thanks Guys,

Denny

You have a 98, I have a 94 but the wire colors are likely the same coming out of the shutdown solenoid.

They should be:

Red with a Violet tracer = The pull up coil

Black with a Tan tracer = Ground

Light Green with a Black tracer = Hold in coil

The wire you would want to connect 12 volts to is the Light Green/Black hold in coil wire.

If you have an ohm meter, check resistance between the Red/Violet wire and ground.

Then check between the Light Green/Black wire and ground.

Resistance between the Light Green/Black wire and ground should be the highest and is the one you want to use for connecting 12 volts to for keeping the Fuel Solenoid picked up.

For testing as well as for operation, I would put a fuse in the line.

Divide the voltage (12 volts) by the coil resistance to determine the current it will draw and use the next size larger fuse to allow for pickup current.

There may be better ways to do it but I believe this would work.
