heres the story as a few of you know my truck has been popping and backfiring I thought that the timing had slipped. well I talked myself into biting the bullet and buying some 191's I already had 370 and didn't have a stumble problem. So I ordered them and put them in this morning felt good but the main thing I noticed is now my truck doesn't pop or backfire anymore. it runs good all the way up to 3000 rpm. I still plan on have the timing advanced.

but the question I have is why was it backfiring and popping.

I'm not real smart about the P-pumps but I'm trying to learn.

thanks

Daniel

You weren't gettin enough fuel on your smaller pump until you replaced the delivery valves to fuel those awesome 370's. Now you have the fuel in their to actually burn. You were simply starving some of the cylinders.

Due to the lower than necessary fuel volume required by your bigger injectors, they were "popping off" a little later than they should. This type of behavior has shown its head on our dumps. I had one, last week in fact, backfiring through the 5 inch muffler. It scared the S**T outta me. In our case, the injection pump was not getting enough fuel due to the fuel supply pump going bad. (kinda like our lift pumps)

thanks everyone for the info I sure love those 191 now if I have a 4000 GSK I could unleash the real power for longer. once again thanks for the info.
