here's one for you clutch gurus

please forgive my lack of smarts on this one. once a clutch starts

to slip, does the slippage continue? am i immediately doomed to

a new clutch? what i guess i want to know is that if i (hypothetically, of course) added a fueling box to my truck and the clutch started to slip, would disconnecting the box stop the slipping or would it continue disconnected?

once again sorry for my stupidity, but what i know about clutches is that its the third pedal and i use it to shift.

You can slip a clutch and not ruin it as long as you do not get it to hot. Once the linings are charred and the castings are warped the clutch will not last. If you have not done this, backing the mods down should get you your clutch back.

I'm with Peter on this one. When I first put my PM3 in I slipped the clutch a few times with the box set on 8 or 9. After that I turned the box down to 6 and ran it that way with no more slipping for about 15k until I could swing a new clutch.



As Peter said, if you don't glaze (my term) the friction plate or hotspot the flywheel your ok.

If you go easy you can stretch it for a long time

Due to financial constraints and never being home, I managed to stretch out my clutch conversion for almost a full year.



I discovered the problem with my OEM clutch while driving from Vermont to Montana after installing a new hot PE.



I ended up keeping the PE switched off for most of the year, but every so often I'd get the urge and let fly with the smoke cloud until the clutch slipped at high speed and high gear.
