2 Wheel/Low Range Vacuum Switch?

New Truck Specs.

Nothin' like a blown $3200 transmission to teach a Dodge-bashing, Ford-lovin fella a little HUMILITY, and the sad realization it can happen to ANY of 'em - even a '99 Ford super-duty with only 60,000 miles on the clock... :p ;) :D

Best of all, *I* had to finish towing his trailer into the nearest port, while we waited for his new transmission to be installed... :D :D

Come on, give us the juicy details....

Gary, you just tell us you get ur buddy to fry his weak Ferd transmission, then leave us hanging... .

Give us the details!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D

"Give us the details!"

Not a whole lot to tell - RV trip up along the N. Cal. and Oregon coast - my Ford-fanatic bud CONSTANTLY raves about the superiority of his truck, while ridiculing all others - especially Dodges with their "lousy auto trannies... "

AHHhh, sweet revenge! While on the grade heading south right at the Sea Lion Caves, he rapidly began slowing down - we're both ham radio operators, so I get on the radio and ask if he's running outta fuel. He replies his transmission is giving out - and that is as far as he makes it! Fortunately, he's just past a turnout for overflow parking for the Caves, and while I back my rig up as my wife flags oncoming traffic, my bud carefully backs into the turnout as I direct him by radio... We both park in the turnout, he calls for a tow truck, and I then drive about 10 miles on to Florence Oregon to park and unhitch my rig - then return just as his Ford is being loaded on the tow truck. I hitch up to his trailer, which according to HIM was "Far too big and heavy for a lowly Dodge to handle", and then load him and his lady plus my wife and me into my truck, and I then proceed to demonstrate how well an "underpowered" Dodge/Cummins can get his trailer on up the grade and onto a parking lot next to the Florence Ford dealer for a transmission replacement...

AHHHh - sweet revenge! (or did I already mention that?):D :D

More pics below...

The next pic is my rig and my bud's on the parking lot next to the Ford dealer's place as we wait for a new transmission to be installed in his truck...

Dunno if it was a "heavy duty" one - but they did tell him it and the new torque converter had all the latest updates - and since his is a Super Duty truck, you would think it would have the heaviest available transmission for that model...

At first I though that picture was out of a magazine or something. Ahhhhh… Revenge is sweet under those circumstances. Sounds like you were patient for quite awhile. Good editing on the picture. Sounds like you're friend deserved a good ribbing. Too bad his transmission blew up. Hope it didn’t ruin the vacation. Good story and thanks for the picts!

it can happen to us too, just lost the rear end of one of our 2002 3500's at 48000 miles. lesson being don't laugh too hard, nobody's immune from drivetrain failures. engines on all of our one tons have done great jobs, diesel and gas, the drive line is and always will be the weak link. Oo.

Gary,

At least your Ford friend was smart enough to travel with a buddy and a good buddy you are - bail him out and them rib him about it.

On other items, how did you mount your ham radio. I'm still trying to come up with a good location to mount a dual-bander, which one is still undecided.

Sheldon - this guy has been UNMERCIFUL in his ridicule of other makes - especially Dodges - and in loudly proclaiming the excellence and reliability of his beloved FORD - so *I* feel NO shame in returning the favor!;) :D

As to the radio mount...

Gary,

Thanks for the radio picture. We both must have been on the Oregon coast about the same time. I was there on Aug 13 to 16 towing the woodie to a show in Portland that was on Aug. 17.

Sheldon - we lived in Manteca for quite a few years prior to 1970 (I worked at the Manteca Bulletin) - my brother and sister-in-law still live there out where Cottage road meets Lathrop road - their name is Beam - you might possibly know them - they are largely in the goat and sheep business...
