i finally put my gauges on over the weekend. pyro, boost, transmission and fuel pressure. i also put in bango bolts from wildcat, 5 of them. i used isspro's gauges. i hooked up the tapped bango bolt on the post filter side. made the connection with the ss line in to the cab. changed the fuel filter. bump started the lift pump 5-6 times. tried to drain out some fuel and got nothing. ended up having to pressurizing the fuel tank to get it primed and started. i ended up having no fuel pressure reading after it started but while i was pressurizing the tank i had 5#'s. we unhooked the ss line on the taped bango bolt and nothing ran out while the engine was running. we took all fittings apart and the were not are blocked. also blew some air in to the ss line and the meter did moved. well i figured the lift pump was going bad. i was able to make 18-20#'s of boost. i took it to the dealer and i was told i had 10#'s of psi pre-filter. asked them to show me this on their gauge. he told me that they used their scan tool to determine this. told him i was hoping they would us a mechanical gauge. then i got a big lecture about how bad it was to be tapped in the bango bolt and that i should use the test port. he assured me that i had plenty of presure on the pre-filter side. he told me to hook my gauge there and i would be fine. well guess what i still have no presure reading even from the pre-filter test port. i left it hooked up this way and will be back tomorrow morning. had to pressurize the fuel tank to get it restarted. he told me the only lift pumps that go out are high milage trucks and not to believe everything on the internet. how can a scan tool make this reading?? why wouldn't there be any fuel coming out of the top of the tapped bango bolt with the engine runningand the ss line unhooked??? we did unhook the ss line at the gauge and some fuel spilled out very slow. i still believe the lift pump is going bad or am i wrong???

well post what happens tomorrow.

There is no fuel pressure sensor , therfore he could not read it with a scan tool.

I believe your lift pump is failed.

There is no reason not to used tapped banjo bolts.

Find a different dealer. Please tell your current dealer not to lie to customers.

All this is applicable to a 98. 5 to 02 model year.

In my opinion, it sounds like you've found another dealer that doesn't know what he is talking about... Lift pumps fail regardless of miles on the truck... I know of more than one that have failed at around 10K miles... Let us know what he has to say when you bring it back in... I don't believe there is a fuel pressure sensor that the scan tool can read=B. S.

Tell the stealer that you will pay for the scan if you are allowed to see the 10# pressure reading pre filter for your self. If scan tool can't read ( it can't on a diesel, just on gassers ) then he will replace lift pump and eat the usless scan.

Easier solution is to RUN, DO NOT WALK to another dealer and never let the first dealer touch your truck again. Just think about what will happen when this same non-tech gets his hands on your truck, you would be luckier if the lot boy did it as he would probably do better than the " non-tech ".

the dealer is right

you shouldn't believe everything you read on the internet.

Otherwise he needs to be fumigated by a fuel-enhanced, fully-warranty-voided, mega- Cummins. (you can quote me there)

And as said before, NEVER go back there. My local dealer is 6 miles away. My bomb-friendly guy is 60. Guess where I go? And it took a while to find him.

I got the brochure that highlighted the new 3500's the other day in the mail. Read it, admired the pics and then promptly tossed it into the recycle bin. Duane's experience is exactly why I will probably never buy another new vehicle. There will always be somebody somewhere that will be selling a pretty good used vehicle and then I can be my own warranty station. Money notwithstanding, the stress that comes from visiting dealership service departments just isn't worth the price of a new truck. Good luck Duane, let us know how it goes.

Hi Duane,

I just ordered my Isspro gauge's, and banjo bolts, and was wondering if you could send me the specifics on your install of the Pyro, Boost, and FP gauges. I'm concerned about the exact connections, and how you did them. I'm mounting mine in a pillar pod.

Thanks... . Jeff

More free advice

Personally, I wouldn't drive the truck until the fuel pressure issue is resolved - we're talking about a very expensive injection pump at risk - and a warranty that's in question from the morons at the stealership (they tend to enter stuff like this in their computer system). I'd make a trip to my local Cummins and buy a new lift pump and install it myself.
