A co-worker of mine had his Grand Caravan at a local Dodge dealer this past Friday and told me about another guy who was there trying to get his vehicle repaired. Apparently this guy's world ended a little earlier than this past Saturday's deadline and this story is just too good to NOT post on here.

This other guy had a brand new 2011 Ram 3500 CTD 4x4 dually with only about 4K miles on it. Apparently he and a buddy were out 4 wheeling, at night, along side some railroad tracks. They we having fun until his truck encountered a 4 inch steel pipe that was sticking out of the ground about two feet or so. As well as most of the suspension and undercarriage, the pipe also made short work of his transmission and most of his drivetrain as well. He managed to get it towed to the dealer and the cost estimate was running around $18K for repairs. However, the dealer was telling him that since his truck was so new they'd have a hard time getting some of the parts because they aren't in the parts supply system just yet. Now, I don't know if alcohol was involved here or not. If it wasn't, I'm sure it was shortly there after. I'm not sure that a railroad bed is the best place to be "testing" the 4x4 in a new truck, especially at night, because you never know who or what you might run into. Literally!

Some folks catch on to the lessons that life teaches pretty easy while others need a little help along the way. For those people, here's your sign! :D

yep. . learned that lesson a while back when I was a teen. . not a new truck,. . a toyota p-up. . ran into a low wire fence at night. . it wrapped around the driveshaft and held me up. . a group of guys came and helped me get cut loose.

I hit a mailbox one night when I was 16 yr. old... ... It was made out of 8" well casing and while I dont know how far into the ground it was, I do know it did not BUDGE!. Yes, alcohol was involved. And to give an idea of how much, I hit the mailbox on the LEFT side of the car!!!... Apparently, I drove the car another 20 miles home. The next day, I went out to look at my car and the entire front end was missing, including the radiator. I ended up with an imprint of a "D" on mychest that came from the Datsun steering wheel!.

It proves that God protects children and fools!!...

musta been a stout pipe too.

It might have been reported as a pipe, but actually been a piece of rail. Railroads had a tendency to bury pieces of old rail as barriers... its easy enough for them to bore the holes with the tools they have and they have lots of old rail on hand. I have seen pieces of rail buried over 10 feet deep with the purpose to prevent entry into the access roads along rail lines.

On a side note, my dad got tired of the local plow wiping out the mailbox... we buried a piece of rail about 5 feet in concrete... it stuck up about two inches (enough to clear the mailman). It removed the plow from the truck... the mailbox was never molested after that wintry night...

Yep. This one ranks right up there with the story told here several years ago about how to stop a dog from doing his business on your lawn. This, the dog story and many others should be preserved here for future enjoyment and reference when people find themselves in similar situations.

Great Stories, especially since no one got hurt, except the dog. A friend and I were out hunting quail in the desert North of Phoenix, AZ a few years back and found a Ford Explorer upside down in a 10' deep ravine. The roof was crushed to the doors. There was some blood and several pairs of surgical gloves in the truck. We found the guys pager (tells you how old this story is) and returned it to the service. A call to 911 indicated the guy was four wheeling the night before after drinking and backed up into this ravine, flipping his truck. A passing hot air balloon heard his screams the next morning. He ended up paralyzed from the waist down. God didn't look after this fool.

Be careful out there

About 20 yrs ago a welder was checking out a topless club and parked his 4-wheel drive one ton behind the establishment so maybe no one would see he was there. After some time and more alcohol, he left. But he didn't see the gas meter behind the building and got hung up on top of it and the guard pipe around it. He had 4 wheel drive and decided that would work. It didn't. But it did cause some sparks and that caused the leaking gas to catch fire and that caused his truck to burn down!
