I've been having an intermittent hesitation problem with my 02' HO 6-speed. It seems to happen most often when the truck is cold... or when its under a load. When I start to feel it, I can temporarily correct it by downshifting into a lower gear and it snaps back to life. I had a very good diesel mechanic tell me to check the wastegate to make sure it wasnt sticking. I pulled off the vacuum line and attempted to pull a vacuum on the acuator (or whatever is called... . the vacuum valve thing!!) and it wouldnt pull the wastegate. I took the e-clip off and found that the wastegate moves freely without the rod hooked up. What I need to know is should that rod move when its applied under vacuum (30 in. vacuum??). If it is... . its not working... and I think I've found my problem. If it needs more... then maybe I need to investigate further. Thanks guys!! -Pat

im pretty sure waste gates dont operate off a vacuum. boost pressure fill the line going to the top of the waste gate head. when the boost exceeds the seat pressure the boost pushes it off the seat and begins to open the waste gate.

More likely the boost sensor is starting to fail. They will not usually set a code. but you will see sluggish performance till the rpm reaches close to 2k

It seems to be getting more and more frequent... but it has been happening for months. It does it almost every time when I first go to leave in the morning. I've ruled out the wastegate... I guess i really have to check the fuel pressure and go from there. Ah the one tool I do not own!!
